'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Will it all UnCoyle for the Judas Snake?

All Clarets fans will no doubt be hoping that Owen Coyle and his Bolton team fail miserably away to Stoke City this Sunday on the last day of the Premier League season.

Is Judas about to be punished? Are Bolton about to return to the Championship, relegated with mounting debts and an uncertain future?

Bolton's task is simple (not!)! They have to win to stay up. Anything else and the result between Manchester City and QPR at the Etihad becomes irrelevant. QPR are currently above Bolton in 4th from bottom spot with two points more.

Can QPR draw away to probable League Champions, Manchester City today? That's all they realistically need to guarantee survival since they already have a nine goal advantage over Bolton in terms of goal difference.

It is almost a sideline now for Burnley fans with the crucial Bolton game about to kick-off at 3pm but who is going to be top and crowned Premier League Champions after todays games?

Well I can confidently predict (cough!) it will be one of the Manchester clubs!

The City side of the City though look to have the advantage over their United counterparts!

Both clubs are on 86 points but Roberto Mancini's men have an 8 goal advantage in terms of goal difference over Sir Alex's mob. City might only need a point to be crowned Premier League Champions and indeed in the unlikely event both clubs lose, City will still lift the trophy unless their is some weird rugby scores involved. What a game though it will be for City today at home against relegation threatened QPR!

The task for United is simple, they have to beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light and hope that City slip up although they could still be crowned Champions if they draw and somehow City lose.

What a day this is going to be! Post your thoughts before during and after the afternoon's action below this thread

I wonder if Bolton do go down (Pretty please), whether Coyle will survive. Some think he will, simply because Bolton can't afford to sack him due to their financial plight. On happy days!
turfmanphil
If - hopefully - Bolton come and join us, will is be an unprecedented 8 teams in the same division all starting with the letter 'B'?
Mike Mada
Coyle's out of contract at the end of the season. Good old turfmanphil. Still as bitter...and still as thick.
RMc
Even better if West Ham beat Blackpool in Play-offs final,Mike! But what a money spinner it could be for local games next season. Owls already up, Blades or Huddersfield looking likely to follow joining Leeds & Barnsley from the Yorkshire side, Blackburn already down with hopefully Bolton to follow from the Lancs side! Get in
turfmanphil
Aw bless, don't you just love it when Bolton fans realise all we ever said about Coyle is about to come true! Only thing he didn't do was jump ship but then who would have him now other than St Johnstone? Not about being bitter its about being right and that has almost been proved conclusively! So what happens if Bolton stay up, will Coyle be offered a new contract for being a failure and doing worse than Megson(How bitter were Bolton fans over him?? Same difference really
turfmanphil
Bet he wishes he had stayed at Burnley now where he would have been loved come what may!

Hmm, sorry about the duplication there! Coyle succeeded by his gung-ho attacking style with little defensive cover. He coped for a few months with it in the Prem with us and then jumped ship. Bolton benefitted from his undoubted charisma and ability to motivate in the short term. Mr 'No Plan B' has failed this season (bitterly blaming his injury problems - probably, in reality no worse than any other team) and deserves to go - even if they stay up. That said and if they do keep him in the Championship, I feel sure he will have just as warm a welcome at the Turf as ********s.
Mike Mada
It must be surely! If I got the maths right, there are 15 'B' clubs in the Football League so we will actually have the majority of them (8) in the Championship with zero in Prem and seven in League 1/2
turfmanphil
Not sure St Johnstone would have him tmp! In Dave T's book Entertainment, Heroes and Villains someone says that the magic had begun to wear off there. Anyway, another sideshow today is the race for third: Ars, Spurs or Newcastle. I'm hoping for the PL title to go to the Blue Camp, Ars 3rd, Spurs 4th, Newcastle 5th (Oh, and Bolton to go down, doh!). And Everton to finish above Liverpool and - as I'd rather watch Spurs in the Champions League next season than Chelsea, I am forced to want Bayern to win this year.
Couch Potato
Stoke go ahead after 10 mins.
Couch Potato
Start putting the Champagne on ice!! :-)
turfmanphil
BBC Sport- - Stoke 1-0 Bolton - Jonathan Walters (13 mins) Big goal at the Britannia and it has gone against Bolton. They will not be happy about it, either. Matthew Etherington's cross is grasped by Adam Bogdan just a second before Jonathan Walters bundles the ball away from the keeper and into the net. Owen Coyle is enraged. Bolton Wanderers Premier League status is seriously under threat now
turfmanphil
Easy tmp. Easy.
Couch Potato
Clarification... my previous post was suggesting to tmp that he take it easy, not that Stoke were finding it easy!!!! Can you get pix of the enraged Coyle? Watching citeh dominate but be unable to penetrate is getting boring.
Couch Potato
Blue Camp rejoices, Coyle has new hope, after goals in the Etihad and the Britannia. Come on Potters!
Couch Potato
Point is no good to Notlob! Dont let em off the hook for *****s sake Stoke!! Grrr
turfmanphil
FFS 2-1 Bolton!
turfmanphil
Nightmare. Bolton 2-1 up.
Couch Potato
It is not over until the fat lady sings, 45 minutes is a long time when the old squeaky bum kicks in.....
VinRogue
Joleon Lescott is a Claret. Woeful back header. Cisse scores. Coyle in bottom 3. Simples!
Couch Potato
First time I heard of Jamie Mackie was (I think) from my barber, who's an Exeter City fan, where Mackie used to play. If these results stand, I am going to remember him for many different reason. 75 mins left now and 10-man QPR leading Citeh 2-1... but now it doesn't matter if the Blue Camp does get its act togther. Stoke have equalised from the spot!!!!!
Couch Potato
What a day!
turfmanphil
2-2 City equalise, 3 mins added time left!!
turfmanphil
Down! Down! Down! Closure.
Couch Potato
3-2 City are Champions BUT it finishes Stoke 2-2 Bolton! BOLTON ARE RELEGATED! How sweet is that? Coyle gets his comeuppence and Clarets fans can now really open the Champers!
turfmanphil
It is Jelly and Ice Cream time, I just need to see some interviews and the odd mention of the 11 players he has out of contract and my interest in hating notloB will be closed once and for all. He just needs a P45 and thats that.
VinRogue
Judas and Mavis now you know how it feels. Well don u av managed to relegate two clubs from the prem. This is curtains for Bolton with their massive debt.
Grimsby Claret
Massive interest now in next season. Get it together Eddie. Four MASSIVE derbies to look forward to. Win them all and you will be forgiven if we do not win the Championship, automatic promotion will do.
cornwallclaret
Me too Couch, supporting Bayern. If only for peace at home with my ardent Spurs supporter wife.
cornwallclaret
Just a little ya boo sucks message to Eagles and Mears too!

Over the moon to have shared the moment! Sitting on the Turf next season is looking interesting!!! Even to someone who can't be there. (sad face) Not sure whether I want Gartside to keep him or let him go. It could get worse. Much, much worse...
Couch Potato
So ye shall reap what ye sow. What goes around, comes around .Can't think of anything else but who cares on this joyous day :-) You got yours Coyle .
WelshClaret

VinRogue
Forgot to mention the Mail on Sunday article that reckons.........Out of contract are:- Kevin Davies Jussi Jaaskelainen Zat Knight Paul Robinson Gretar Steinsson Ivan Klasnic Ricardo Gardner Sean Davis Robbie Blake Martin Petrov Sam Ricketts On top of that the club is estimated to be 110.6m in debt. Their wage bill in 2010-11 was 54.69m. Now how much Parachute money pays that then!!! Gloating pills kicking in now....
VinRogue
Wonder how long Eagles & Mears will stay in the Championship? Wlll anybody want them in the Prem? Mears a whole season out more or less and Eagles not exactly taking the top flight by storm?
turfmanphil
Well I'm made up, Rovers down, Bolton down, Utd miss out, Big Sam showing Rovers what they discarded
Totally_Claret
Has anyone else noticed that Bogdan, the Noblot keeper who was involved in the incidents leading to Stoke's two goals which so enraged *oyley, is an anagram of God Ban! Poetic! In response to tmp's question about how long Eagles and Mears will stay in the Championship, my answer is one season. They'll be in L1 after that!!!! In fairness, most the the mega-debt is a loan from the Isle of Man based owner who says he hasn't got more to put in, but doesn't want to be paid back. I think I read he made his money out of kettles. I'll bet he's letting off steam!!!
Couch Potato
On the subject of anagrams, Reebok rearranges to 'e broke!!!!!
Couch Potato
HAPPY DAYS.
Grimsby Claret
So where have all the Bolton fans gone on this thread now? Must be sulking, aw bless! Well we did tell them Coyle had no idea about defence or any idea about a Plan B! Megson must be laughing like hell!
turfmanphil
In the paper today Reo Coker has activated a relegation release clause in his contract making him available!!!! Well Owen my boy it looks like you charisma by pass has worked....still I am sure you could get Robbie to sign a new contract.....
VinRogue
Gartside says Coyle is safe at Bolton. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18070999 This means either that he isn't, or that he's going to be offered a new contract at a much smaller salary and continue on his path to destruction there!!! Gartside is also talking on this same BBCwww article about how having 11 players out of contract, mostly senior pros, will help him get his wage bill down. I think Reo-Coker has already indicated his willingness to help with that, and others may follow suit.
Couch Potato
I reckon both Blackburn and Bolton will finish above Burnley. Blackburn's doubtful but Bolton is a certainty. Most of Bolton's debt is not to banks, and they are a much more attractive set up than BFC. Hope I'm wrong, but there is a lot of gloating on here which possibly stems from our own stagnation.
pmh200111
Agree it may not last so might as well enjoy the moment, pmh200111. No? That said, I'd disagree about Bolton ending next season higher than Burnley being certain. Nothing's certain. Then again, I do agree with you that Bolton's debt should not cause them a problem. What might is the gap between income and spending commitments. In that context having 11 players out of contract may help them adjust and rebuild. But are they attractive to new investors? The current owner has said he won't put more money in. Others won't unless he relinquishes control and writes off the huge debt owed to him. So it's perhaps not as attractive as their nice stadium, good facilties and strong recent history may suggest. All will be revealed in time...
Couch Potato
Robbie Blake was one of eleven players released this week following Bolton's relegation. Surely at 36 he might now retire?
