Stewart had a trial with the Clarets during the summer of 2011 playing in three pre-season friendlies after coming on as a late substitute at Bury, Torquay United and Oldham Athletic.

The successful trial led to him signing a one year deal in August 2011.

He is now the third-string goalkeeper behind Lee Grant and Brian Jensen.

Stewart started his career with Swindon before joining Weymouth in 2006.Four years later, following a brief spell training with Portsmouth, he signed for Bournemouth, where he made four appearances before becoming a free agent after leaving the south coast club in April, 2011. He was sacked by the Cherries due to further misconduct after an initial 2 week suspension for missing training and damaging hotel rooms but Eddie Howe has wiped the slate clean and given the keeper another chance. Stewart failed to make the first team. During his time at Turf Moor he went out on loan to Blue Square Premier side Alfreton Town and was released at the end of his contract in Summer 2013.
