Cort was out on a season-long loan to Charlton Athletic when he had his contract with Burnley Football Club terminated by mutual consent on the 9th January 2012. As a free agent, he agreed an 18 month contract with the Addicks a few days later

He signed for the Clarets from Stoke City in January 2010 for £1.5 million pounds agreeing a three-and-a-half year deal. At the time we were in the Premier League and had just lost Owen Coyle with new gaffer, Brian Laws sealing the deal.

The former Millwall, Southend, Hull and Crystal Palace player made 15 appearances for the Clarets that season but could not help Burnley avoid relegation.

The following season, appearances were limited and he joined Preston North End for a loan spell in November 2010. It soon became clear under new manager, Eddie Howe, that Cort's days at Turf Moor were numbered and in August 2011 he was signed by Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan.

Cort whilst on loan at Charlton become a Guyana international making his debut in their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Barbados and Bermuda in October 2011.
