Anderson joined his local club, Aberdeen in 1996, becoming their captain before signing for Sunderland in June 2007 for 1 million.

The central defender joined Plymouth on a loan until the end of last season in February 2008. Born and bred in Aberdeen, the 29 year old is a Scottish International with 11 caps to his name so far.

He signed a season-long loan for the Clarets on Tuesday 26th August 2008.

A cruel cruciate ligament injury though in the Carling Cup 3rd Round match against Fulham in September 2008 ensured his season was over although he looked close to a return by the end of 2008/9.

Owen Coyle made no secret of the fact he would like to sign the defender on a permanent basis but nothing has materialised to date during the Summer.
