Referee:

Burnley's Championship season continued with an emphatic four-nil win against Charlton at Turf Moor on Saturday.

With half time approaching, just a minute away, a first goal in some three and a half league games or so (since the equaliser in the two-all draw with Cardiff at the end of November) was scored by Burnley with Scott Arfield turning home a Matt Lowton cross for to send the Clarets into the break one-up.

Arfield's second, with Dean Marney playing a key role, came less than 10-minutes into the second half as he saw an effort deflected home with George Boyd soon setting up Andre Gray to add the third two-minutes later and have the points secured.

Sam Vokes, with his first goal since early October, made absolutely sure late on with Lowton again providing the assist for the Burnley striker.

The only save Tom Heaton had to make, before the Clarets went ahead anyway, was to tip a Johnnie Jackson effort over with a first in seven-matches secured.

These were the other results.

Some interesting results with some expected outcomes, and some not so!

Middlesbrough consolidated their place at the top of the Championship, and ended Brighton unbeaten start to the season, with a resounding three-nil win at the Amex Stadium to know they'll go into Christmas top of the pile.

It's been a difficult few weeks for Burnley but the Clarets got back to winning ways with a resounding four-nil win against struggling Charlton with another struggling side Rotherham causing an upset to see off the challenge of Hull with Neil Redfearn's side winning two-nil at the New York Stadium.

Rivals Derby and Nottingham Forest also collected good wins against Ipswich and MK Dons respectively.

On Sunday we saw a great result for Sheffield Wednesday with the Owls going into Christmas with a four-one win Wolves at Hillsborough with the second Brian McDermott era of Reading beginning with a one-nil win over Blackburn, who had been on an unbeaten run, at the Madejski Stadium.

It wasn't brilliant in the first half, but Lowton added a little more security at the back and deserves an extended run. Boyd had an excellent game as did Barton. Hopefully the goals - particularly for Gray and Vokes will get that partnership rekindled to more.
