Vital Report - Port Vale 1-0 Burnley
Burnley's Capital One Cup run is over for another year, before it got going, after a defeat at Vale Park against Port Vale on Tuesday.
Priorities, of course, lie elsewhere for the Clarets this season but a disappointing one-nil exit in the first round of the League Cup against a League 1 side wouldn't have been (a) wanted or (b) expected would it!
This was the case though when Moore scored a late winner to send Rob Page's Valiants into the second round and leave Sean Dyche free to focus on the Championship this side of Christmas until the FA Cup gets underway.
After a first half with little threat, from either side, it was level at the break with Kightly then becoming the most threatening for Burnley. The winger had one effort blocked and another saved by Vale 'keeper Alnwick, formerly with Newcastle and signed recently on a short-term deal.
With extra time looming Kelly, who had come on just minutes earlier for Andoh - who had the only real Port Vale chance in the first half, crossed with Gilks palming this away. Moore (82) managed to force the follow up home.
Extra time was almost forced in injury-time but Boyd's effort caught the top of the crossbar and that was that for the Clarets, the League Cup run was over....
Did a starter, or someone from the bench, offer the most in this two-one loss?
