Referee:

Burnley dropped to the foot of the Premier League table as we prepared for the meeting with Leicester, who won once again, with a defeat against in-form Everton, who themselves as continued their own impressive form.

A first half goal was enough for Everton to beat us one-nil at Goodison Park on Saturday; our hosts could even afford to miss a penalty - well more to the point see it saved!

Everton had an early chance to take the lead when they had that penalty, awarded when Lennon was viewed to have been fouled by Jones in the area, when it wasn't to give Barkley a chance but he saw his penalty kept out by Heaton and the rebound was cleared to safety.

Surprisingly not taking the penalty, having missed just one of his previous 15 for Everton, Baines then threatened but Heaton was again equal to his effort but it was eventually Mirallas (29) who opened the scoring just before the half hour mark, after a McCarthy cross.

We could have been level right away but Jones lacked the composure needed to beat Howard, in fact he didn't even test the Everton 'keeper with us down to 10-men when Barnes was shown a second yellow card before half time to make our task even harder and it also means he misses that Leicester game!

The views of discontent at decisions were made clear to the ref at half time with him doing little to endear himself to us in the second half when he punished Mirallas' dangerous challenge, and foul, on Boyd with only a yellow card.

Everton could have added a second but failure to do so meant that Ings could have earned us a valuable point but with our best effort, as his baron spell continued, he headed Tripper's cross over and our chance was gone....
