The Clarets originally had a game scheduled on Saturday 16th February to play Coventry in a Championship match at Turf Moor. However, Coventry are doing rather well in the FA Cup so the fixture was postponed giving the Clarets a free weekend.
So how come (Eircom? Get it? Ill get my coat!) we now have a game on Friday the 15th?
It was annonced yesterday that Eircom League of Ireland side Bohemians would be playing the Clarets in a friendly.
Burnley FC will visit Dalymount Park on Friday week (February 15th) as part of the Bohs` preparations for the start of the Eircom League Premier Division season.
Despite being Scottish-born, Clarets gaffer Owen Coyle is a former Irish international so he will be returning to the Emerald Isle for this game.
Coyle had this to say about the fixture:
'I know the Bohemians manager Pat Fenlon from playing alongside him in the Republic's Under-23 side, and I also know he will put out a side that will give us a competitive game,
'The Eircom League is a good standard and clubs there are building up to the start of their season. This therefore gives us a chance to play a competitive fixture when otherwise we would have a blank weekend.'
Coyle added: 'It is also an ideal opportunity for some team bonding, while it allows us to take the name of Burnley Football Club over to a part of the world where we enjoy excellent links with the local community.
'Ireland has been good to Burnley in recent years and hopefully this game will encourage more youngsters to believe they too have an opportunity of making a career for themselves at Turf Moor.'
Gypsies boss Pat Fenlon told the club`s official website: "It`s a good fixture to have at this time. Burnley are well into their season, and will provide a test for us fitness-wise.
"I know Owen Coyle very well from playing with him in the Irish 'B` internationals, and I am delighted to welcome him and Burnley FC to Dalymount Park."
Tickets for the match will cost €15 for adults, €8 for students and €5 for OAPs and children, with ticketing arrangements to be confirmed by Bohemian Football Club in the coming days.
