Cole joins Clarets

Breaking News on the Official Sunderland AFC site as the loan deal that takes Andy Cole to Burnley is confirmed.

The 36 year old striker will be at Turf Moor until the end of the season and could feature in the next match for the Clarets at West Brom this Saturday.

He has made just three starts for Sunderland so far in a total of eight appearances for the club since joining them in August 2007 after leaving Portsmouth as a free agent.

The striker has scored nearly 300 goals in his career having played for 10 clubs, most famously Manchester United and Blackburn.

Owen Coyle was clearly delighted to have the England International on board and said to the Offical Burnley website:

"I am absolutely delighted to bring a player of Andy Cole's stature and quality to the football club,"

"I have been working on signing him for a while now and I am thrilled to have him. He will be a tremendous addition for Burnley and gives us a big, big boost."

Cole, capped 15 times for England with take the Number 27 shirt for the Clarets.

Welcome aboard Andy.

The news follows an earlier announcement that we had also agreed with Sunderland to extend Stan Varga's loan to the end of the season.

A signing at last!
turfmanphil
Surely too old, too slow, too expensive, looks to me to be a signing to add to the gate receipts more than the goals and points tally.

I will reserve judgement until the end of the season once I have seen what his owd bones can do!
turfmanphil
Cracking signing for you guys, will score goals at this level.

Think as long as his legs are still up to it, he'll bang a few away. Now all we need is a proper purchase, still we've got a sweetener off the club with the free away travel to West Brom I suppose.

I think I've made my point about him being too old on the forums. But as long as he wears the Clarets and gives 100% to the cause I'll get behind him. I don't see him as a signing to excite the fans as such so hopefully the OC and the board have something else up their sleeves......fingers crossed before Thursday eh?

Would be nice if we get the New Maradona at least, even if nobody else comes in
turfmanphil
At this rate we'll be lucky to get the New Madonna!! Ha ha i have full (hopefully not misguided) faith in the management...hopefully another new face or 2 before the deadline
SaintClaret
At this stage would be happy with one or two, providing one is Riordan and t'other the New Maradona! ;-) Robson next, then Whelan, cant see need for Lee and Stead to come now
turfmanphil
Well if we get that new maradona, we'll be on fire. West Brom are beatable seeing as Preston did em 2-1 last night.
AccyClaret
No team in this division is capable of consistency and all are beatable, if we could break the mould and go on a non-losing streak we could be heading for Nirvana
turfmanphil
It's about time we had a good run after christmas, much needed and with a few burnley fans getting behind the team due to the clubs somewhat strange generosity, we are in a good position to get up that league. 1st place is only 8 points above us and as you've said all clubs lack consistency. We might yet reach that mythical promotion we've craved for so long.

Forget his age . just think that he is an experienced played and a proficient goal scorer . He will bring that little plus to pave ourway to glory .
