Riordan Back on for Clarets?

Derek Riordan's agent Jim McArthur claimed today that Riordan is interested in discussing a permanent move to Burnley from his current club,Celtic.

This is despite a previous offer of 400k being turned down by Gordon Strachan and a reported statement by Owen Coyle that the Clarets would not be pursuing any further interest.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Coyle had said the following:

'We made a bid for Riordan, it was turned down and that's that.'

Further confirmation that we had withdrawn our interest appeared to be the case with a report by the Guardian newspaper today that Bristol City hoped to complete the 750,000 signing of the Celtic striker Derek Riordan within the next 24 hours!

This appears to have been denied by his agent suggesting the only cash bid came from Burnley with others seeking a loan deal(see below)

Riordan has been unable to establish himself in the Celtic side this season and is understood to be keen to leave the club.

McArthur told BBC Scotland today that Riordan was also being pursued by five clubs who want to take him on loan.

'But if he's to go it must be on a permanent basis,'

'I'm sure it would suit all parties if an agreement could be reached.

'The only club to have made an official offer is Burnley for 400,000 plus add-ons.

'Derek would be very keen to speak with them if an agreement was reached.'

Further rumours tonight suggest we have put in an approved offer and that this may have been the player that Owen Coyle felt he would be close to signing today. In the event no announcement was made and Clarets fans eagerly await some news tomorrow.

This could be the one we are all hoping and praying for! Get in there Owen

Seems the rumours are true about his attitude. Tic want him sold as a loan arrangement will see him returning if the attitude problem surfaces at where ever he ends up. Hope it is at Ipswich, we will sort him out.
quietman
Ha Ha if anyones getting him its gonna be us!!!
AccyClaret
Ipswich? Where did that come from, scared of losing Lee to us then? ;-)
turfmanphil
If given the choice he'll come to us!!! Seeing as he says he's keen to speak to us!!! Lets hope we have some good news at some point today!
AccyClaret
For heaven's sake surely not another day with no news, all we are getting is bollox and its 2;15 pm now
turfmanphil
Looking like it's much ado about nothing! Hope that the Riordan thing comes off at some point!
AccyClaret
I think I would have prefered Coyle to shut up about signings coming in by certain deadlines and then putting the 'maybe' caveat on them! Quite frankly if he says it again, I will take it with a pinch of salt until something finally actually happens instead of this constant lip-service and general bollox
turfmanphil
Me too!!! Really like his attitude and way of thinking but until the player has been allowed to talk to us and is putting pen to paper, I think I'd rather not be told if's, but's and maybe's!!
AccyClaret
Guees he's under media pressure to say something and maybe he is feeling the pinch a bit, but another day gone now; its gone 5pm!!
turfmanphil
Having said that, Riordan was supposed to sign for Bristol City according to media within 24 hours of yesterday's early announcement! So that aint happened either which could be encouraging for us!
turfmanphil
wouldnt be a bad signing but has a bit of a bad repitation off the field be warned
