Riordan Back on for Clarets?
Derek Riordan's agent Jim McArthur claimed today that Riordan is interested in discussing a permanent move to Burnley from his current club,Celtic.
This is despite a previous offer of £400k being turned down by Gordon Strachan and a reported statement by Owen Coyle that the Clarets would not be pursuing any further interest.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Coyle had said the following:
'We made a bid for Riordan, it was turned down and that's that.'
Further confirmation that we had withdrawn our interest appeared to be the case with a report by the Guardian newspaper today that Bristol City hoped to complete the £750,000 signing of the Celtic striker Derek Riordan within the next 24 hours!
This appears to have been denied by his agent suggesting the only cash bid came from Burnley with others seeking a loan deal(see below)
Riordan has been unable to establish himself in the Celtic side this season and is understood to be keen to leave the club.
McArthur told BBC Scotland today that Riordan was also being pursued by five clubs who want to take him on loan.
'But if he's to go it must be on a permanent basis,'
'I'm sure it would suit all parties if an agreement could be reached.
'The only club to have made an official offer is Burnley for £400,000 plus add-ons.
'Derek would be very keen to speak with them if an agreement was reached.'
Further rumours tonight suggest we have put in an approved offer and that this may have been the player that Owen Coyle felt he would be close to signing today. In the event no announcement was made and Clarets fans eagerly await some news tomorrow.
