Rumour Mill-Laffs for Riordan?

The rumour that Celtic's Derek Riordan might be on his way to Turf Moor refuses to go away.

Celtic's interest in Kyle Lafferty after a failed bid of 500,000 in last season's January window also seems to be maintained with a report today that a swop plus cash deal for Riordan might be on the cards

We are indebted to Carrickclaret on our admin team for spotting this article in his local paper, the Belfast Telegraph

The main part of the article suggests that Celtic are ready to use out-of-favour striker Derek Riordan as bait to bring Northern Ireland striker Kyle Lafferty to Parkhead and that Owen Coyle although denying the rumours has a soft spot for the player and wants to rescue the 20 year old lad from his Celtic predicament.

The paper is quoted as saying the following

'A swap deal is now on the cards and with Coyle stating he would allow Lafferty to leave if it was in the best interests of the club and player there is nothing to block the move. '

Oh well, we shall just have to see how things develop

Riorden is a bit player at best. He may help you get to where you want to be, but he won't sustain your ambitions for you.

Star saying same by all accounts although I hear what you are saying weetim, might be OK at our level: Celtic could offer Derek Riordan in part-exchange to Burnley for striker Kyle Lafferty. (Star)

turfmanphil, I have never seen him so is Lafferty good enough to step up to a higher level? Do you think he'd cut it in the Champions League etc?
weetim67
Well he seems to do alright for Northern Ireland at International level and many Premier League clubs appear to rate him if the rumours are true, Newcastle, Villa, Sunderland and Fulham to name a few. I still think hes a bit raw and he gets too excited in front of goal. he tends to want to blast it in when often a gentle tap or a pass would be the better option. He's been played out of position on the wing recently and is probably better in the centre in 4-4-2

I guess time will tell then. Happy New Year guys.

I think O'Riordan would make an excellent addition to the team, but i'm not too sure about swapping Lafferty!!! Seeing as Lafferty is shaping into an excellent player of late!
