Rumour Mill-Derek Riordan

According to the 'Record', Celtic will spark a transfer scramble by agreeing to sell striker Derek Riordan in January.

Riordan is already being linked with a move to the English championship in January.

Both the Saints and Burnley are believed to be interested in the 24 year old.

'I would rather go away and just concentrate on another club now.,Riordan is quoted as saying

'I don't want to go out on loan because then I'd come back and not play again. I would rather get my head down somewhere else and get my career going again.'

He is quite clearly not a happy bunny in the Green&White Hoops and he has publicly aired his disappointment at not being given more opportunities in the Celtic first team

Edinburgh born,Riordan played for Hibs between 2001 and 2006 before signing for Celtic in a £200,000 deal in June 2006.

The Clarets at that time too were reported to be interested in the player

He also has one Scottish cap to his name appearing as a substitute against Austria in Graz in August 2005.

With Owen Coyle and his Scottish connections, its not difficult to imagine a number of these Scottish player links coming along to the Rumour Mill.

Do we need another striker? Could this be the contingency if Kyle Lafferty departs in January? Who knows, it all might be a load of rubbish but at least we have reported it

Now we have this in the Daily Mail:Derek Riordan has emerged as a leading January target for Burnley - and Celtic could use that interest to aid a new cash-plus-player move for Northern Ireland striker Kyle Lafferty. Coyle is considering an offer of around £500,000 for the former Hibernian forward, with the intention of partnering him alongside £3million-rated Lafferty. Celtic, though, have kept tabs on Lafferty since having a £500,000 bid thrown out by the Turf Moor club 11 months ago. It's understood the Parkhead outfit hope Riordan, who they rate at closer to £1m, could prove valuable in tempting Burnley to talk about a part-exchange deal for the 20-year-old when the transfer window reopens.
