Jewell in Ternent's Crown

Jewell in Ternent's Crown

New Rams manager,Paul Jewell has appointed our former gaffer Stan Ternent on to his team at Derby as part of the backroom staff.

Although his official role has not yet been announced, it is understood he will be helping out Jewell with team issues.

Jewell said: 'Stan was my coach at Bradford and he has great experience, great knowledge - he knows the game inside out.We think along the same lines.'

Derby are not exactly in a strong position propping up the Premier League with only six points from 14 games, and Jewell and Ternent will have their work cut out following the recent departure of former manager, Billy Davis.

Ternent parted company with the Clarets in 2004. His last managerial position was at Gillingham but he left the club following their relegation to League 1 in May 2005.

He had however been helping out Steve Bruce at Birmingham as a scout in recent times but of course Bruce has now moved on to Wigan adding to the recent merry-go-round spate of managerial changes.

Stan had also been linked with the recently vacant manager's position at Wrexham but that appeared to be snatched away from him by the appointment of Brian Little.

There was also an amazing rumour circulating around Turf Moor today that Paul Jewell had been offered the job at Burnley, but the offer was withdrawn when it was revealed that he wanted Stan as his sidekick! Probably nothing in it whatsoever, but it does make you wonder.

Anyway enough of that nonsense, all the best to Stan and it will now be very interesting to see what fate Derby now face
