Clarets Re-Coyle and Spin?

Owen Coyle may well be the new Burnley manager following agreement on a compensation deal with his current club, St Johnstone. There has been no announcement on the specifics of the compensation package but there has been confirmation on the Official website that talks will now proceed.

The official statement said 'Burnley Football Club has today been granted permission to negotiate with St Johnstone manager Owen Coyle over the vacancy at Turf Moor.

'A compensation package has been agreed between the two clubs if Coyle is appointed and he will now travel for talks on Thursday morning.'

Saints chairman Geoff Brown also told the local Lancashire Telegraph this afternoon that a deal had been struck and Coyle was free to speak to the Clarets board about the opportunity tomorrow.

'Burnley have increased their offer of compensation to a level which is acceptable to us and as such they have permission to talk to Coyle,' said St Johnstone's secretary, Stewart Duff. The timing is unfortunate for Saints as they prepare to face Dunfermline in Sunday's SFL Challenge Cup final. 'It doesn't help, but c'est la vie,' Duff continued.

The 41-year-old Scottish born, former Republic of Ireland striker has made an encouraging start to his management career.

Former Bolton player, Coyle led St Johnstone to last season's Scottish Cup semi-finals, and they only missed out on promotion to the Clydesdale Bank Premier League when Gretna scored a last-gasp winner at Ross County on the final day of the season.

He previously had a short spell in charge of Falkirk, where he and John Hughes were co-managers in 2003.
