Gaffer on 5th New Signing for 07-8

The Clarets are all set to sign veteran, 33 -year old defender David Unsworth on a free transfer tomorrow

He will be signing on a one year contract.

David is a relatively local lad born in Chorley in 1973

Unsworth, began his career with Everton and played for them twice between 1991-97 and 1998-04.

He has also played for West Ham and Aston Villa so may as well add another Claret & Blue side to his collection!

After leaving Everton for the second time, he had spells at Portsmouth (2004-5) and a loan spell at Ipswich later in 2005 before joining Sheffield United(2005-7). He was transferred to Wigan in 2007.

He became a free agent after being released by Wigan Athletic at the end of last season despite saving the club from relegation in that match against the Blades when he scored that all important penalty.

Unsworth has also been capped just once by England playing in the 2-1 victory against Japan at Wembley on the 3rd June,1995

The gaffer Steve Cotterill said about the move:

'David is going to sign for a year and we are very pleased with that considering we have been light at the back.

'He will bring great experience and great strength to our back four

'Looking back at what's happened today, (Caldwell injury) we are delighted to bring him in. Obviously he will be short of fitness and as you get older it gets harder.

' I'm sure when he is called upon he won't let us down.

'We may throw him in at the deep end on Tuesday night and hopefully he'll swim.'

Welcome aboard, David and good luck for the season ahead!

good signing he's slow, old, but steady as a rock

Hes a good squad addition and Im sure we will get the best out of him for at least one year. We suffered badly from injuries to the back four last season and it contributed significantly in my opinion to that bad 19 match winless streak. This looks a shrewd deal and gives that extra cover insurance we need
