Burnley Rumours-The Saga Saga!
The Saints appear to be closing in to sign their former loan player, Marek Saganowski.
Steve Cotterill had admitted earlier this week that he had been keen to sign the player.
'Saganowski is one I've been working on for a bit.
'There has been contact between myself and a representative of Troyes, but Southampton have the first option to buy him.
'We'll just have to wait for some encouragement on that.'
Marek signed for Saints on loan from French club Troyes in January and the Hampshire club are confident that the 28-year-old will complete the move on a permanent basis.
The player's agent Jaroslaw Kolakowski last week revealed that the south coast club was Saganowski's first choice.
He is quoted as saying the following:
'Marek wants to stay in England and he wants to go to a good club.
'Southampton are a good club and they are his first choice as he enjoyed his time there.
'But if talks take too long with Southampton he could move to another club.'
Southampton it is understood have first option on the player, with the deadline to agree a deal believed to be this weekend.
Saints boss George Burley hopes to seal the deal as soon as possible:
'Talks are going very well. Lee Hoos has been in Poland and spoken to the agent and we're hopeful something might get sorted there.
'There was an option in the contract when we took him which we're looking to take over.'
If the deadline passes without Southampton finalising the transfer, there are still a number of Premiership and Championship sides reportedly interested so even then we face an uphill battle to secure his services.
It was reported in one paper(The Sun)in midweek that a deal had already been struck with the player going to St Mary's for £700,000.
The Clarets were understood to be prepared to offer up to £1 million.
