'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Manager Says-Sunderland 3-2 Clarets

Steve Cotterill had the following to say about last night's thrilling game that ended in a 3-2 defeat with a goal by the Black Cats in the final 10 minutes.

'I remember it being a cracking game when we beat Preston 3-2, but when you lose 3-2 I don't know whether you see it that way.

'We came here and we wanted to give it a right go. We did that apart from the first 15 minutes, when I thought they were out of the traps very quick knowing that they probably had to get three points tonight.

'I thought we played our part though. There were a few individuals who could have done better tonight and if they had have done better we would not have conceded three goals.'

The gaffer also had a few things to say about the three penalties that were awarded by referee, Kettle. One of course included our own,our first in 66 matches!

'I think the referee wanted to give a penalty. From what I can gather they are soft penalties and maybe their second was the only one that might have been.

'I don't know what he gave the first (Sunderland) one for - maybe Wayne Thomas sneezed on him - and I don't know if ours was either if I'm honest.

Steve went on to say:

'Overall I thought we did enough to get a draw tonight against a top club with a top manager and a real passionate crowd behind them.

'When Wade Elliott scored, I was thinking that would be difficult to better, but Carlos Edwards has come up with a peach and because it is the winner, Wade's will get knocked back a little bit.

'Football is a cruel world and we are not taking anything with us tonight.

'We just have to make sure we finish on a high and get three points from the last game of the season next week.'
