'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rumour Mill-Graham Coughlan

Today is the last day of the loans window and Vital Sheffield Wednesday are quoted as saying that 'Clarets boss Steve Cotterill attended Hillsborough on Tuesday night to see Coughlan in action against Leeds Reserves, in which the Irishman scored in a comfortable 3-0 victory and impressed the former Sunderland gaffer enough to warrant a loan move.'

It is also understood that Coughlan went to train with the Clarets yesterday before completing the loan deal

Coughlan has been on compassionate leave over the last few weeks after the death of his younger brother. The former Plymouth player though has been out of favour since the arrival of manager Brian Laws playing only eight times for the Owls since the sacking of Paul Sturrock. Coughlan, nicknamed 'Cucko' has also had to compete unsucessfully for a place with young defender,Richard Wood.

The player would probably have spent the rest of the season with the Owls on the bench.

The deal will include a 24-hour recall clause should Wednesday require Coughlan's services in case of injuries or suspensions. Vital Sheffield Wednesday also believe that the 32-year-old will be allowed to leave the Owls in the Summer.

Steve Cotterill must be concerned about the current injury problems in the back four with John McGreal, Steve Foster, Wayne Thomas and Steven Caldwell all recovering. A solid back four will be critical in coming matches as we try and avoid relegation and reach safety.

There may be a possibility also in the back of Steve Cotterill's mind that if the player becomes available in Summer 07, he might be worth signing and its not yet certain whether we will retain the services of John McGreal.
