'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Deal? McCann Do!

Dublin born, Chris McCann is today expected to sign a new three-and-a-half year deal for the Clarets which will run until the summer of 2010.

The 19-year old midfielder follows hot on the heels of Kyle Lafferty and Michael Duff who also recently signed similar new contracts.

Steve Cotterill was delighted by the news and is quoted as saying:

'As I said last week, following the new deals for Kyle Lafferty and Michael Duff, we are delighted that Chris has signed an extended contract,'

'I am delighted at Chris's progress. I think he has improved again and to have two 19-year-olds - who both started the season as 18-year-olds - in the team is terrific.

'Over the season they will have ups and downs,' Cotterill added.

'Young players like Chris will suffer lows one moment, such as losing his marker at QPR. Then, within 10 days they will have the highs of scoring a goal such as the one at Wolves.

'That is what happens when you have young players in the team. There is a sufferance period, not only for them, but us as a club.

'But you need to suffer those times to bring your players through and I think Chris and Kyle have been excellent.'

Vital Burnley FC congratulate Chris on this great news
