Clarets have New Captain!

Steve Caldwell of course was a team captain at Sunderland before the arrival of Roy Keane. The Clarets have also recently been used to seeing our recent signing take the armband with Wayne Thomas originally injured then sidelined to the bench.

In last night's match, both Caldwell and Thomas featured in the back four against Leicester but Caldwell retained the captaincy. Most Clarets therefore began to wonder if this was the end for Thomas as team captain.

It did not take long for confirmation with an official announcement today that Steven Caldwell has indeed been appointed as the new Burnley captain.

Steve Cotterill said about the change:

'Steven will be the new captain and I think he will be a good one.

'I spoke to Wayne about it before the game and I felt he didn't need the extra load after the type of start to the season he had.

'He was obviously disappointed about it because I am sure he would have like to have kept it, but he didn't let that show in his performance tonight.

'I think it has lifted the weight off Wayne and that was a better performance tonight because he can focus on his own game and not worry about everyone else's.'

Well done Steve and also to Wayne for taking this on the chin and not letting it effect his performance last night
