Ugly Scenes Steal The Headlines - West Ham v Burnley

Ugly Scenes Steal The Headlines - West Ham v Burnley

Following Saturday's clash between West Ham United and Burnley, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

West Ham United hosted Burnley at the London Stadium on Saturday March 10, with the visitors taking a comfortable three nil victory on the day.

After a goalless first half, Burnley stepped up their performance after the break and Ashley Barnes opened the scoring after 66 minutes. Chris Wood quickly built on their advantage scoring just four minutes later and the New Zealand international went on to complete his brace inside of the final ten minutes to take all three points on the day.

With a pitch invasion from frustrated home fans following a third straight defeat, those moments took the headlines especially with West Ham skipper Mark Noble clashing with one invader and amidst chants of 'sack the board' club owners David Sullivan and David Gold were forced to leave the directors' box ahead of the full time whistle.

Burnley's solid season continues but West Ham are now within three points of the relegation zone, sitting in 16th place.

West Ham:

Hart, Collins, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Zabaleta, Kouyate, Noble, Antonio, Joao Mario (Hernandez 71), Lanzini, Arnautovic.

Hugill, Adrian, Evra, Cullen, Rice, Browne.

Pope, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Ward, Lennon, Cork, Westwood, Berg Gudmundsson, Hendrick (Wood 61), Barnes (Vokes 89).

Nkoudou, Marney, Lindegaard, Bardsley, Long.

Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee Lee Mason blew the final whistle, West Ham manager David Moyes explained.

'Up until the goal you wouldn't have thought that it would have been such a bad day. We had played well enough to be in front but the first goal quickly altered things. We want the supporters behind us, since I've been here they've been really good. But you can't cross the line and come on the pitch. A lot of my players did well with the way they acted. We still have plenty of games, we are good enough and we will be out of the bottom three come the end of the season. I'm confident we have the players here.'

Burnley manager Sean Dyche in his comparative interview explained.

'They were the better side in the first half, we had to do the ugly stuff to stay in it. We have to focus on ourselves. You can't play like we did in the first half and expect to get things out of the game. The first marker was to be better than last season. We have played better and now we have 43 points, the highest in the Premier League era. That's pleasing with eight games to go.'

Great second Half performance from the Clarets. Almost went to this Game but had promised to take the Grandchildren to the deep (Aquarium) in Hull. If We had gone It would have been a game I would never forget not just for the four great goals. (One disallowed by the linesmen the closest call yet this season) But the fans who went will never forget the pitch invasion by some of the unhappy Hammers fans.

Do feel for the West ham fans. They have been forced against their wishes to move to that London Athletics Stadium. Upton Park their heritage and a proper football ground with a good Atmosphere has been Bulldozed. Massive Mistake. Like being evicted from your family Home.
