A Point Shared - Burnley v Southampton (24/2/18)

A Point Shared - Burnley v Southampton (24/2/18)

Following today's clash between Burnley and Southampton, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Burnley hosted Southampton at Turf Moor for a 3pm kick off on Saturday February 24, with both sides playing out a score draw.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, the hosts took the lead with just over 20 minutes remaining in the game as Ashley Barnes found the net, but a 90th minute leveller from Manolo Gabbiadini gave Southampton a point.

Pope, Lowton, Long, Mee, Ward, Berg Gudmundsson, Cork, Westwood, Lennon, Hendrick, Barnes.

Taylor, Nkoudou, Marney, Vokes, Wood, Lindegaard, Bardsley.

McCarthy, Soares, Stephens, Hoedt, Bertrand, Romeu (Boufal 75), Lemina, Ward-Prowse (Sims 68), Tadic (Gabbiadini 81), Redmond, Carrillo.

Hojbjerg, Pied, Bednarek, Forster.

Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee Robert Madley blew the final whistle, Burnley manager Sean Dyche explained.

'You can only control what you can control. The performance was good, certainly enough to win three points. It is another point on the table. We're still finding ourselves. We've had a tough run. We did enough to win. The game was petering out to nothing. They huffed and puffed, but didn't create too much. We should have had a penalty for a foul on Barnes, and he reacted well to get his goal. There was a handball outside the box by their keeper, then the goal of course. Apart from all those things, I'm pleased with everything.'

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino in his comparative interview explained.

'At the end, the game was difficult, because Burnley don't concede too many. The goal gave us a good feeling, because there wasn't too many chances. We competed at the start of second half but maybe they were stronger than us in some respects. It's one point, but the draw is almost the same as a win.'
