Injuries Have Caught Up With Us

Injuries Have Caught Up With Us

Manager Sean Dyche has admitted he feels that our injury situation has now caught up with the players as Burnley slipped to a narrow defeat to Swansea City at the weekend.

Heading to the Liberty Stadium for the game on Saturday, it was far from Burnley's best showing and clearly the hosts had the better of the game in terms of possession and shots on target, but it was a defensive effort from us and with greater composure we'd have tested their goalkeeper and possibly walked out of the game with a point.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the press following the game, Dyche felt we had been well on our way to grinding out a fifth draw in the last six, but inside of the final ten minutes Ki Sung-Yeung struck to give them all three points and thought our efforts in recent times caught up with us at that stage.

We do now of course have a fortnight's break in the action and it couldn't have been timed better and Dyche plans on taking the group away for some warm weather training.

'I don`t think we were effective enough today and they just about edged it on the performance. The margins are fine between a performance that can win and one that doesn`t and they are a good advert for that. This is a side that, nine games ago, had nowhere near that endeavour, energy, workload and will to win that game. The new manager comes in and suddenly all of that comes together and the crowd are right behind them now - but that`s football!'

Dyche went on to say.

'We came here to a side with a bit of energy about them. I don`t think that had too much to do with the game overall because it was a tight game with nothing in it really, before they got on the right side of those margins. We've found that lately, partly due to our own doing at times. I didn`t think we were nearly as good today as we have been, and although we created some chances we are a bit huff and puff at the minute. We have got a lot of injuries and it`s just about taking its toll now. I think the lads have done well, but it is taking its toll, so the next two weeks will be important, to see if we can get some of them back.'

With Stephen Ward being welcomed back to the substitutes bench following his own injury issues, Dyche said that James Tarkowski and Chris Wood are also nearing a return now.

'We have to make the most of what we`ve got at the minute because of the injuries. It`s a great chance for those lads to come in and play, but I do think they now need reinforcements, so it will be interesting to see how many players we can get fit again before the next game in two weeks. We are in every game and that`s pleasing, but we have to correct the run we are on, quite obviously, and we do need some of those players back fit. This group have given me everything and they now need to see their mates back fit, so the squad has more depth to it.'

I am both surprised and pleased at our performances with so many crucial absences due to injuries. Well done SD in providing the depth to the squad needed on the budget he has. I doubt any of the managers of the top clubs could have done better. Looking forward to the return of a fully fit squad and winning ways. Come on you Clarets.
