Few Will Run Over Us

Few Will Run Over Us

Midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson has said that although few have 'run over' Burnley this season, he knew Manchester City had taken every last ounce of effort from the squad.

With Pep Guardiola's side visiting Turf Moor and no doubt looking to add to their three nil victories in the previous two games, Burnley defied everyone's expectations by taking a point from the encounter and the goalscorer on the day knew it had taken plenty of effort as the opposition had a number of efforts to improve the scoreline before we pulled level late on.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media post game himself, while he had plenty of credit for the visitors and their performance, he was more than happy to talk up the squad and the saves they needed Ederson to make across the 90.

'It was a great ball from Lowts. It was a tough finish because it just bounced in front of me and the keeper got a hand to it. He was on great form today and made some really good saves, so I was just happy to see it hit the back of the net. We created some good chances and made their keeper work. In the first half from Ben he made a good save and so it`s a credit to us that we made chances against a great team like Manchester City. I just want to get in the box and score some goals. That`s two in the last five league games and I just want to keep the run going.'

With a more regular goalscoring record at former club Charlton Athletic, Berg Gudmundsson would clearly like to be on the scoresheet more often again but he went on to admit that with his previous goal this campaign against Liverpool on New Year's Day counting for little, he was pleased this one did.

The match also sees us become only the fourth side to deny City all three points, and that is obviously a testament to our attitude and efforts.

'It`s a tough league and you have to stay in every game, which is what we do. There aren`t many teams who come and run over us. We, as a team, we never stop. We always go for 95 minutes if that`s necessary and that showed again today. We got the late equaliser and then had to defend a bit but we stuck at it and it was a good point for us.'

'In the first half we tried to press but they are really comfortable on the ball and they always seem to find a pass. In the second half we just dropped back a bit and I think we were more comfortable. But they are a great team, so it`s credit to us to get a point against such a good team.'

The game does of course extend Burnley winless run to nine games, but with five draws in that time and with us now taking points from the top five sides in the division, that's not really something to be overly worried about.

As the player points out, no point is a 'bad point' and we just have to 'keep on going' and the next 'win will come'.
