The Rumour Mill- Garreth O'Connor

Out-of-favour midfielder, Garreth 0'Connor might well be off to the seaside if this rumour in the Lancashire Telegraph is true!

He is being linked with a possible loan to Blackpool.

Rather a fitting reminder really since we play Wolves this Saturday at Molyneux. No doubt many fans will recall this same fixture last season which was also televised by Sky.

We came away with a 1-0 victory that night thanks to a spectacular free kick from Garreth O'Connor.

It is not clear why this season the ex-Bournemouth midfielder seems to be out of favour but his only appearances in the team have come from the bench. It is perhaps surprising that we dont play him more often in view of his skills from set pieces. This part of our game is something we appear to have lacked so far this season.

I do have concerns now if some of these rumoured loans go ahead. We have brought in Akinbiyi, Djembe-Djembe, Gudjonnson and Caldwell but have said goodbye to Micah Hyde, Gifton Noel-Williams and Frank Sinclair.

If the aim was to increase the squad size, further loans out of the club will not help for the rest of the season. A season we rapidly need to turn round after no win in 12 matches, We surely will need cover if injuries, tiredness and suspensions start to have their effect.

Brian Jensen is on the transfer list with Mike Pollitt having returned to Wigan and loans have now been rumoured for Spicer, Foster, Branch and Garreth O'Connor.

Can we afford to let any of these out on loan? We are still one of the smallest squads in the League.

Steve Cotterill does not appear to be denying a possible loan move for Garreth O'Connor and even seems to be hinting there might be a deal.

He is quoted as saying "I wouldn't say there hasn't been a whisper about that but no more than that at the moment. That's with other people really."
