Instant Reactions - Newcastle v Burnley (31/1/18)

Following today's clash between Newcastle United and Burnley, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Newcastle United hosted Burnley at St James' Park for a 7.45pm kick off on Wednesday January 31, with both sides playing out a score draw.

Newcastle took the lead through Jamaal Lascelles, but a late 85th minute credited own goal to Karl Darlow earned Burnley a point on the day.

Darlow, Yedlin, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett, Atsu (Murphy 64), Diame, Merino, Kenedy (Ritchie 72), Perez (Gayle 85), Joselu.

Shelvey, Hayden, Manquillo, Woodman.

Pope, Bardsley, Long, Mee, Taylor, Berg Gudmundsson (Nkoudou 83), Cork, Westwood (Vokes 70), Arfield (Lennon 60), Hendrick, Barnes.

Lowton, Ulvestad, Wells, Lindegaard.

Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee Simon Hooper blew the final whistle, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez explained.

'We created enough to win the game, we had enough chances to score the second or third goal and finish the game, but we didn't do it. For the effort, the way we were playing, we deserved to win. It's a pity because Joselu is working so hard but as a striker everybody is expecting you to score goals.'

Burnley manager Sean Dyche in his comparative interview explained.

'Newcastle started much better, we gave away a good goal and then our response was terrific. We've shown a lot of character. I'd have taken that after the first half because they were the better side. We still looked like we were finding our feet and it was almost a new group playing tonight, in the sense that they haven't played that many games together. We weren't making the connections you need, but that got better in the second half and, in the end, we were the side going for the win. It's frustrating when you haven't won for a while and we are having a tough run at the moment, but we've got 35 points on the board and we're back up to seventh in the Premier League.'

Not a word of excuse from SD that we had 7 senior players out. Their replacements did us proud. Newcastle had the first half, we had the second. The draw was a draw and I am well satisfied. Bring on Man City, UTC>

I agree Cornwall the stats show there was not a lot between the two teams in the end a fair result. Another game another point. We will reach the forty point Mark this month i believe, even with our top players injured.
