Instant Reactions - Crystal Palace v Burnley (13/1/18)

Following today's clash between Crystal Palace and Burnley, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Crystal Palace hosted Burnley at Selhurst Park on Saturday January 13, with the hosts taking a one nil victory on the day courtesy of a Bakary Sako effort in the 21st minute.

Palace will be pleased with their continuing resurgence under Roy Hodgson although they will probably think the margin of victory could've been greater as Ben Mee cleared off his own line shortly after the half time restart.

The visitors won't be too down given their overall performance in the game as Sean Dyche will probably feel the reaction to the Manchester City loss was a good one, they just failed to take advantage of the chances they did create.

Teams:

Crystal Palace:

Hennessey, Fosu-Mensah, Kelly, Tomkins, van Aanholt, Zaha, Milivojevic, Riedewald, McArthur, Benteke, Sako.

Substitutes:

Speroni, Cabaye, Lee Chung-yong, Souare, Kaikai, Delaney, Wan-Bissaka.

Burnley:

Pope, Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor, Cork, Defour, Berg Gudmundsson (Wells 85), Hendrick (Nkoudou 63), Barnes, Vokes.

Substitutes:

Lowton, Westwood, Walters, Lindegaard, Long.

Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee Michael Oliver blew the final whistle, Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson explained.

'It was a massive three points. We knew it would be very, very tough. In the first half we created chances to make life more comfortable for us in the second half. We knew they would get stronger and more questions would be asked of our back four and goalkeeper. I'm delighted we were able to withstand that test. They are very good at what they do - a strong team, a physical team. At least now we can look at the league table for a week or two without shivers running down our spine.'

Burnley manager Sean Dyche in his comparative interview explained.

'I think overall we deserved something from the game - a draw really. It was a bit of a ding dong - them better in the first half, us in the second. Roy Hodgson has the side very organised. They did really well in the first half but we got back on top in the second half. It comes down to a couple of missed chances from us and they have taken one. It is a fact we are six without a win. We are Burnley Football Club, we are progressing. We won three out of four just before that. If you mix it up over the season we are moving forward. You have to be the right side of the margins and we just haven't been this month.'

I think Palace shaded it. Sky made much of Palace being without 6 senior players, no mention that we have been without 5 for some time now. Given that, I think our recent performances have been very credible. I am looking forward to the return of Heaton, Lowton, Ward, Brady and Wood for a successful second half of the season. UTC.
