Mee Still Focused On 40 Points

Mee Still Focused On 40 Points

Centre half Ben Mee has insisted that Burnley's aim remains reaching the 40 point mark in 2017/18 despite the impressive start to the campaign we've had.

With eleven games played in the Premier League, Burnley have taken five wins for a total return of 19 points that sees us tied with Arsenal and Liverpool as we sit in seventh place, but Mee is adamant that nobody is getting carried away - we'll keep the aims simple, reach 40 points and then see where the season takes us.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph with eyes turning to the return of league action this weekend as the November international break comes to an end, Mee picked out the 40 point mark as something all the players had to remain focused on this year.

'That`s definitely a target for us, it`s our main aim really. We`d like to hit it as quick as possible but we`re not looking too far ahead, we`re looking to the next games and we`re excited about them.'

With a four point gap on the sides below us, the 28 year old went on to say that once 40 points are reached, then we'll let ourselves look further ahead as obviously the players want to do more than just survive.

'Looking at the start we`ve had we`re confident and we`re looking forward to seeing what we can do and what way we can go.'

Reflecting more on our start which took many by surprise.

'Looking at the fixtures it was hard to imagine but we`ve come through that really well. We`ve got some big games coming up after the international break leading up to Christmas and we`re excited about it. We`ll see where it takes us.'

Asked on what had changed this year, Mee felt it was just the club growing into the Premier League and showing that they have learned some lessons and are adjusting.

'It`s a bit more experience and knowhow and we`re having a bit of luck along the way as well which is nice. When all those come together and we get good performances then we`re looking good.'

Could not agree more GC. Seems typical SD philosophy and not getting above themselves, although I can not get a top ten finish out of my head. Come on you Clarets.

Dare to dream cornwall, has now turned to living the dream. Long may it continue. I'll be happy if living the dream sees us with 40 +a few bonus points, ha ha.

At world cup match...Ireland/Denmark...dreadful fare & Denmark fully deserved their win. I bring this up because our Burnley boys had very very poor matches. They were not helped by bizarre decisions my management who completely panicked (Martin O'Neill/Roy Keane.) Brady centre midfield with Hendrick and no defensive midfield out of 5!...then Brady pushed to left full with Ward centre half in back 3.Their confidence completely ebbed away. Swansea worry me...nothing to lose.I would make changes as I feel Wardie,Brady & Hendricks confidence has taken a battering over this fiasco and maybe Taylor,Arfield,Wells deserve a chance. They can always come on off the bench if needed. That is what the bench is all about. I agree with all of Bens comments but I too am like CC.Backed the clarets 8 weeks ago at 13/2 to make top 10. 3 points v Swansea would go a long way on reaching that dream.UTC.

Yes Irish I am at the game this Saturday. Seems like Ive seen us play Swansea or lose to them enough times to be worried they are our bogie team. Couldn't believe the Ireland result to lose 1-5 at home as well. That result or thrashing is bad news for Burnley our four Irish players will be feeling flat their confidence will have taken a knock especially Ward. On top of that big Sam Vokes misses a penalty for Wales and Wood played Thursday in NZ defeat. there is no way he will be fit and mentally ready for Saturday. May need to rest at least a couple of them. Lets hope we get a result on Saturday. Due to work commitments its my first game of the season but will be in the cricket field stand with the family Making some noise to support the boys.
