It Mata's To Juan, Why Not All?

It Mata's To Juan, Why Not All?

Manchester United's Juan Mata has again called on Premier League players to match his pledge of 1% of their salary being donated to charity.

The 29 year old player pledged to donate 1% of his salary to charity earlier this season but so far only six players have joined with him and matched the midfielder's offer.

However, not one of those six players comes from the Premier League and there are no English players amongst them either.

Mata told the
BBC that he was however hopeful that some of his Manchester United colleagues would soon step up to the plate and he was hopeful of receiving some good news next week.

'I have big news and good news coming up probably next week. I hope everyone will be happy. I am definitely convinced some of my team-mates can join. I just need to have further conversations and have more detailed conversations with them in order to try and explain to them what we are doing.'

1% is such a pithy fee given the wages on offer to everybody in the top flight, and dare I say a number of players certainly in the Championship as well, and whilst some players already have their own foundations and do more than simply attend club community work and the like, I'm sure with sponsorship deals and images rights and everything else a professional footballer in the upper tiers of the game has available to them - well 1% would hardly be missed would it.

German and Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummells was the first to match Mata's pledge and US women's World Cup winners Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan quickly followed suit, as did Giorgio Chiellini of Juventus, former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry and Stuttgart's Dennis Aogo.

'It's just a little matter of time and patience. I am convinced we are going to get so many different players from around the world. England, we hopefully have in the next week.'

Not too much to ask is it?

The Premier League has robbed the football league and seem to be intent on grabbing every penny in sight. Are they really so greedy that they begrudge this pittance.
