Walters Could Make Republic Play Off - Dyche

Manager Sean Dyche has confirmed that Jonathan Walters does have hope of playing a part in the Republic of Ireland's World Cup play off despite being on the sidelines.

34 year old Walters is expected to be out until around the December mark as he continues to recover from the knee injury he sustained, but speaking to the rte.ie as he met with the media for his pre game press conference, Dyche hinted that Walters could in fact return for his country for their two legged play off game after the clinched second place in Group D.

Walters was of course with the Republic this international break and Dyche explained.

'We are still not putting timescales on it. But it won't be days, it will be weeks. We are hopeful it will settle down quickly. It already is. We were getting a specialist's view of it, it needed a period to calm down. It's a historical injury, a wear-and-tear injury and needed time to calm down. Once it has settled down, it's getting strength through the knee and that's where we are at.'

Dyche also said that Walters travelled with his blessing to the Ireland camp, because he knew it wouldn't impact on his rehabilitation and he knew Walters could play a role in the dressing room for them.

'There was nothing he could do away with Ireland which would comprise his rehab. I think the lines of communication between clubs and country are a lot more open than they used to be. Jon has been important to the group there, a good professional. It was clear to everyone he wasn't going to play and there was good information shared by both sides.'
