Dyche - Focus For Everton - Walters Missing

Manager Sean Dyche has called on Burnley to focus on our own game rather than Everton when we face them this weekend.

Going into Sunday's clash at Goodison Park in front of the Sky cameras, Dyche knew that we could expect a tough game despite Everton's current form which has seen only seven points returned from their first six league games.

With plenty of change to their playing staff over the summer, our gaffer knew sometimes it takes time for people to bed in and he knew we had to be on our guard that it didn't come together for them in this match.

Speaking to Sky Sports as he met with the media today for his pre game press conference, Dyche explained.

'It's tricky for all managers when they're signing new players. And I think they've signed some very good players. But you've got to mould it into a team, the players have to learn about each other and, inevitably, we're all judged on winning, which is hard to come by sometimes. I certainly don't take them lightly, though. Bit of a tricky start to the season, and the manager's spoken himself about the feeling amongst his group when they're playing, but we don't take anything for granted.'

With Ronald Koeman describing his players as scared following their faltering start to the Europa League campaign, Dyche went on to say.

'He's seemingly being just honest, which is not always the case. He's showing concern for his team. I'm sure he still believes in his team. We've never been fooled by any messages that come out of camps - and I don't think Ronald's trying to do that, to be clear. We just came across Crystal Palace the other week and we had to work so hard to get a win against them, they gave a very good performance on the day. And that is the key, on the day. The whistle blows, can you perform? He may have things he's not happy with at the moment or he's feeling the players are not happy with, but we can only focus on ourselves.'

Dyche also explained that Jon Walters would be out for a longer period of time with the knee injury he's picked up. Having been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for this coming international break, the player has now withdrawn from the group so he can spend the time resting up.

Speaking to the Official Site, Dyche explained.

'Jon won`t make it for the weekend as we are still letting his knee calm down. We`ve had a view on it and it`s all common sense in terms of rehab and something we know about, but the knee has flared up and there is a settling down period for that type of injury, so we are unsure on timescales. I think it will be a bit of a while; we`re not sure yet, but it`s not going to be days. It`ll be longer than that.'

Dyche also confirmed that long term injured Dean Marney and summer signing Nahko Wells have now embarked on their own mini pre season training schedule to get them up to speed.

Marney has been out since injuring his cruciate in the defeat to Arsenal last season, but Wells has been on the sidelines since coming to the club following ankle surgery over the summer.

'Dean is making really good strides and is just breaking back into a first team training schedule and the daily life of a first team player. Nahki is doing the same and they are making a real shift at the moment. There is some time to go yet, but it`s good to see them out with the group, especially Nahki. Deano knows everyone, but for Nahki it`s all new and it`s good to see him out there.'
