Burnley Win Performance Of The Week Award

Burnley Win Performance Of The Week Award

Burnley have won the Performance of the Week award following our opening day victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Taking the three two victory at the reigning Champions' home ground last weekend as we kicked off our 2017/18 Premier League campaign, the Performance of the Week award is handed out by the League Managers' Association and does exactly what it says on the tin.

The five man panel - LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, former manager's Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry chose us to receive the specially engraved trophy following our efforts that saw a brace from Sam Vokes and a Stephen Ward effort.

Speaking to the Official Site manager Sean Dyche explained.

'They're important accolades along the journey. It's the first game of the season so there are a lot of challenges coming our way. But on behalf of the players I'm thankful for that. I think the lads deserved it over the whole game. It was a very strong performance in the first half and then they saw the game through in the second half. And it`s not easy to go to those places and take a victory so, despite went on with key decisions, it was still a very good performance. It`s early days yet. We don`t want to get ahead of ourselves but it`s a great thing to start the season with and not only for ourselves, it`s a big pay-back for the fans. Last year they were unbelievable, going everywhere round the country and had to wait so long for that win everyone wanted. To get one so early is good for them as well.'

All attention's have now already turned to the weekend's visit of West Bromwich Albion which Dyche knows will be a test of a different kind.

'That's the key - trying to replicate it. It's not easy. The Premier League is a very tough league, as we know. We enjoyed our home form last season. I think our fans did, and we want to take on the challenge again because statistically it's difficult away from home. We've got that big three points on the board already, but it is statistically difficult. Our home form we think, as most people do, may play a strong part, like it did last season. We`ve got to make sure we're ready to perform.'
