Joey Gudjonnson was signed by Steve Cotterill a couple of weeks ago as a replacement for Micah Hyde, who left the club for Peterborough in the transfer window.
Steve is reported as saying he has got terrific value for money, hoping that the Icelandic international signed for £150,000 from AZ Alkmaar, can add the explosive shooting and tough tackling he is renowned for.
He added 'We've lost a player already in Micah Hyde, so we needed to replace him. and replace him longer term.
The 26-year certainly has age on his side compared to Micah (32) and for a defensive midfielder, he does seem to have this knack of scoring spectacular goals from long distance.
Lets hope he can repeat that for the Clarets and bring some additional excitement in the team for the fans!
Steve had been following the former Villa,Wolves and Leicester man since the time he was playing for the Foxes and recalls when he last saw him play in a match for Leicester against Preston.
'He was excellent on the day, combative and more than anything he shoots and scores'
There is an indication though that he was not suited to the style of play for AZ Alkmaar, not featuring in too many games.
Steve admits himself that 'He will need time to settle in and we'll hopefully help him to do that as quickly as possible'
All Clarets fans will also be hoping he attains the form he achieved whilst at Leicester.
In 66 League games, he scored 10 goals for the Foxes. A pretty impresive record for a defensive midfielder, especially when some of these were awesome efforts from long distance!
That statistic also compares favourably with Micah Hyde's record whilst at Burnley. Most fans can probably only remember that one awesome goal he scored against Blackburn Rovers two seasons ago in the Cup match at Ewood Park. In terms of League games however, Hyde only ever scored once in 95 League appearances! It looks like Steve Cotterill therefore has indeed picked up a bargain with Joey who appears to have excitement potential written all over him!
It is obviously too early to judge based on only two games (although some have been dismissive already, give the lad a chance!).
He came on from the bench against Stoke at Turf Moor and made his full debut as a Claret in the match against Derby this week at Pride Park. By general consensus he played well, looking lively and getting involved and was actually voted as Man of the Match by the Clarets faithful after the Rams match.
Looks like Joey is already doing a 'Gud' job and we wish him all the best in his time with us.
