Manchester United 'Favourites' To Sign Keane

Manchester United 'Favourites' To Sign Keane

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are now 'the favourites' to re-sign Michael Keane at the end of the season.

The Mail report Keane is interested in making this return to Man United, who would pay less than others due to a 25% sell-on clause agreed when he joined Burnley in 2015. His career resuming at Old Trafford would also see his current wages quadrupled to £100,000 a week.

Yet, any deal would hinge on Keane, 24, being offered assurances of how much first team football Jose Mourinho would afford him - over 30 games a season is his target.

Sky Sports has also reported an interest from Man United but Sky sources understand no talks over a potential deal have taken place.

Having undertaken loan spells with Leicester, Derby, Blackburn and Burnley prior to his permanent arrival for £2m in 2015, former England boss Steve McClaren - who took him to Derby - said he was surprised Louis van Gaal let him leave.

McClaren told BBC Radio 5 live: 'I'm surprised Manchester United got rid of him in the first place. e took him on loan at Derby a few years ago when he was 19 or 20 years old. He wasn't physically ready at that stage. He came in as cover for 10 games and was absolutely outstanding. The potential future was there for all to see.

A 'modern centre back', Keane has established himself in the Premier League.

He added: 'He was a modern centre-back - he could get a goal from set-pieces and was aerially very good. He could also bring the ball out from the back and step into midfield. Michael has since cemented a place at Burnley and established himself as a top centre-back.'
