Bournemouth Was A Game Too Far - Dyche

Manager Sean Dyche has admitted Bournemouth was a game too far for Burnley this season as we fell to defeat at the weekend.

Making the trip to Dean Court for the tie, the hosts took a 25th minute advantage and although Burnley battled back and equalised with Sam Vokes in the 83rd minute, they took the lead again two minutes later and sent us to a two one defeat.

Speaking to the Official Site in his post game press conference Dyche knew the season had effectively caught up with us and it was the proverbial 'one game to far' in terms of meeting our own performance levels.

'It was a little bit flat, especially in the second half. I didn`t think there was too much in it in the first half, although they had more of the ball, without really penetrating. In the second half though we were a bit flat. We`ve had some big, important games lately and today we just looked a little bit flat to be honest and maybe it was just a game too many.'

Dyche went on to add.

'It certainly had the feel. We scored a good goal and could have nicked something from the game, but we`ve conceded two really poor goals, particularly the second one. To be fair we have two centre halves (Long and Tarkowski) who are learning and still getting a connection. They just got too distant for the second goal, but it`s hard to be too critical of these players because they have taken this club a long way in the last few years, and particularly this season when people gave us no chance.'

Ending the gaffer went on to say.

'They have had some high-pressure situations and we do keep at it and there`s no lack of effort from the players. We have done a good job over the season and just didn`t have that edge today but I`m not over-thinking it.'
