PFA Nominees Announced For 2016/17

PFA Nominees Announced For 2016/17

The Professional Footballers Association have announced their shortlist nominees this week.

With Leicester City's unexpected success last year, there's no Jamie Vardy or Riyad Mahrez this time around but the nominees on the shortlist for the PFA Players' Player of the Year are pretty much who you'd expect following the last campaign.

Two Chelsea players figure, N'Golo Kante and Eden Hazard and they are joined by Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, Everton's Romelu Lukaku, Manchester United's Zlatan Ibrahimovic and finally Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane.

The shortlist for the PFA Young Player of the Year has also been announced, and Kane and Lukaku feature on that list of nominees alongside Tottenham's Dele Alli, Burnley's Michael Keane, Sunderland's Jordan Pickford and Manchester City's Leroy Sane.

Kante was shortlisted for the senior prize following his exploits last season and although he didn't make the top three, he is the bookies favourite so far it seems. Hazard won the senior prize in 2014/15.

Alli and Kane are former winners of the Young Player prize and Alli will be hoping for back to back success.

For the Women's Players' Player of the Year, Manchester City's Lucy Bronze is up against team mates Jane Ross and Jill Scott, Chelsea's Karen Carney, Birmingham's Ellen White and Liverpool's Caroline Weir.

Weir is also nominated on the Women's Young Player shortlist alongside Chelsea's Millie Bright, Birmingham's Jess Carter and Manchester City trio Nikita Parris, Georgia Stanway and Keira Walsh.

The 44th PFA awards will be held in the Grosvenor House in London on Sunday April 23.

The shortlists have come from the votes of 100 member clubs, Premier League, Football League and WSL.
