Safe Standing-EDM & Campaign Update

An Early Day Motion (EDM) was put down by Mike Hancock MP on the 15th November last year.

The EDM read as follows:

'That this House urges the Government to re-examine the case for introducing small, limited sections of safe standing areas at football grounds; further urges the Government to recognise that there is widespread support for such areas, and that improvements in stadium design and technology mean that with rigorous safety specifications standing areas could be safely re-introduced; and calls on the Minister concerned to convene a meeting of representatives of the police, supporters, Premier League clubs and the Football Licensing Authority to find a way forward.'

We are pleased to report that to date up to 94 MPs have signed the EDM in agreement with the proposal. In theory if another 6MPs sign we could be having a debate in Parliament about this issue supported by many fans.

If you are one of these fans and your MP has not yet signed the EDM, why dont you lobby him or her? You can find out which MPs have signed the EDM by visiting the Houses of Parliament website and looking for EDM 101.

You can contact your MP online by visiting this site:

You can also send any MP responses especially if negative to Phil Gatenby at the following address. He will co-ordinate a response to the MP.

Obviously this request goes out to all Footy fans whatever team you support.

As far as the Clarets Campaign is concerned, this is being co-ordinated by Burnley Ultras and you can read more about this on their website:

Lets got for it and get those MPs on board, only 6 more required to reach that magical 100 figure that could trigger a debate in Parliament!
