'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dave Kevan talks Pollittics!

Apologies for cracking that Pollittic joke again but now we hear from Dave Kevan about the news of Mike Pollitt's loan signing.

No doubt all Clarets wil be intrigued to know if this signing is just for cover for Brian Jensen whilst Coyne is out with a hamstring injury or whether indeed we may find a new goalkeeper between the sticks as soon as this Saturday.

The clues appear to be in the comments from Dave below and I wouldnt at all be surprised if Pollitt makes his Burnley debut this Saturday following criticism recently by Steve Cotterill about the defence. 'The Beast' has always played better with another goalkeeper breathing doen his neck for a place. In the absence of Coyne, Brian again seems to have slipped into his old sloppy ways and I suspect he may be rested this Saturday.

Dave Kevan talking to Clarets World and the Official Burnley FC site is quoted as saying:

'Mike is obviously vastly experienced and has played a lot of Premiership games. Danny Coyne's progress has been hampered with a hamstring injury which has taken a little bit longer to clear up than what we hoped,Kevan goes on to say 'We just felt as though we needed an experienced keeper to help us come out of this little run we are on and push the other two (Jensen and Coyne) on.

'Paul Jewell has been very good to us and allowed him to join us on a one month deal. Hopefully he will get plenty of games under his belt during the month and then we will review it.

'Mike comes with invaluable experience at the top level and I'm sure he will be a very good acquisition for us. Defending starts from the top and as a team we need to start defending better so I'm sure Mike will help in that department.'

Pretty strong suggestions there dont you think that we will be seeing a six foot four debutant goalkeeper at St Mary's this Saturday?

Dave is doing all the talking today, lets hope Steve is out finalising some new deals in the transfer window and preferably squad additions rather than losses!

Although the Clarets have let Micah Hyde go, things are moving in a positive way forward. Signing Pollitt on a one month loan is good to keep Jensen & when fit Coyne on their toes, but hopefully Cotterill is looking for strengthening the back four line up!
