Pollittical Transfer!

The Clarets have today signed 34-year old goalkeeper Mike Pollitt on a one month loan from Wigan Athletic. He could be selected for the Saints match this Saturday if required and there is some suggestion he might be favoured over The Beast. Jensen has not been totally convincing of late and has made a few errors and costly mistakes.

Pollitt, known as 'Polly' to his mates, has made more than 500 appearances betwen the sticks and we can rely on his experience should we need to provide cover for Jensen or indeed keep The Beast on his toes! In the light of continual injuries to the unfortunate Danny Coyne, this would appear to be a good move and provide that extra confidence should Brian if not dropped himself succomb to injury or a red card. Spicer is probably relieved!

The lad certainly has a presence being 6ft 4 tall!

Mike joined Wigan from Rotherham United in June 2005 for £200,000 after spending four years at Millmoor. He comes originally from Farnworth.

He certainly is a well travelled lad and we can list his other former clubs as follows:

Manchester United (trainee)

Oldham (Brief loan)

Bury (Free Transfer 1991)

Lincoln City

Darlington

Notts County

Loan spells at Oldham, Gillingham, Brentford and Sunderland

Sunderland for one month (1998)

Rotherham (Stint one-100 appearnces)

Chesterfield (Summer 2000)

He soon found himself back at Millmoor though when Rotherham re-signed him for £75,000 12 months later and made almost 200 appearances for the club before joining Wigan.

Wigan however signed Chris Kirkland in the Summer of 2006 and Mike had to contend with being second choice goalkeeper being farmed out to Ipswich at one point on loan earlier this season. He has played just three games for the Latics this season. Wigan manager,Paul Jewell feels the move will benefit all parties and Jewell told the club's official website.

"It is a problem when you have three such good goalkeepers at one club, because one is always not going to be involved in the squad if they're all fit,"

"I hope Polly gets to get some games under his belt with Burnley, because nothing improves sharpness better than matches."

Its clear Jewell is looking for Pollitt to play and not bench warm!

Vital BFC welcomes Mike to the club and hope his stay proves fruitful. His loan is for an initial one month so he may stay longer and one wonders if there will be any consideration of making the move permanent in the Summer.

It should be noted however that Wigan have inserted a 24-hour recall clause in the deal.

There is now also speculation about the long term future of injury prone Danny Coyne who is also co-incidentally out of contract in the Summer.

If 'Its clear Jewell is looking for Pollitt to play and not bench warm' then I doubt a possible long term deal could be done, and probably not a permanent transfer. Pity - Coyne is kind of injury prone at the moment and the Clarets cannot expect Jensen to play all season (even though he would if asked to).
