Dyche Frustrated With Preston Defeat

Dyche Frustrated With Preston Defeat

Manager Sean Dyche has rued the no show of a red card from the referee in the Lancashire derby defeat to Preston North End yesterday.

Speaking to the Official Site in his post game press conference having seen Burnley downed by two goals in the game, Dyche's anger was taken up by the side being involved in another red card incident that went against them.

With Preston right back Marnick Vermijl already booked before he then brought down Ben Men shortly after the restart with the scores still tied, the gaffer couldn't understand why the referee Kevin was a such a Friend to him.

'The outcome wasn`t what we wanted, but I was generally quite pleased with the performance. You have to be productive and I lost count of the chances we created. Their goalkeeper is man of the match, which is usually a good sign on your attacking play.'

As for their opening goal and the non sending off issue, he went on to say.

'We did give them a really, really soft goal for the first one, but we have to punish teams when we are on top and if you throw in what I think is impossible non-sending off for their player for a second yellow card, that`s not helpful either. It`s quite simply a body-check. He doesn`t go to play the ball at all and I find that impossible that it`s not a sending-off. I spoke to the ref and he said they have been debating those recently and in his opinion it`s not a booking. I find that incredible.'

With that figuring in the game and counting against us, Dyche again was quick to talk about how we had the chances to have wrapped the match up ahead of that point so in many ways we only had ourselves to blame for the loss.

'But I must make it clear we should have taken care of business. We had the chances today, particularly before half time. That was the strongest start we`ve made to a game all season. I thought we were dominating and they have had to work hard all the game to stay with us.'

Going back to the performance of their keeper, he went on to say.

'You have to take your chances. Today was one that got away and it`s smash and grab from them, I think. Sam had a few chances and I want my strikers to be in there. I never really knock them for their misses, only if they are not in there to get the chances. But Sam and Andre have had enough chances today and even Joey popped up with a few. That`s my main disappointment today, but the overall feel I felt there were some good things again today.'
