Burnley are back in the Premier League and Clarets fans are getting used to the cons as well as the pros. A big con is the fixture changes introduced at the whim of Sky and others when they want to cover the games live. These are normally done without any regard to the fans of course and the clubs bend over lapping up the extra dosh no matter what hardship it can cause some fans. The season has not even kicked off yet and already we have four changes in the pipeline even our opening game against Chelsea! Its a case of Monday Blues for Clarets fans!
It is absolutely appalling that TV companies can treat fans this way and move a weekend fixture to a Monday, even a Sunday is bad enough for those that live away from Burnley and have a season ticket like me and I am sure many others! Quite simply I won`t get to see the game against Chelsea now because I live in Cambridgeshire and work in Surrey. I mean what is the point of me having a season ticket if I lose out on games like this and the club offer no compensation despite the TV payouts? Nor do I have Sky TV in the flat and I am not going to traipse the pubs of Redhill just to find one that is showing it surrounded by Chelsea fans! (It`s Surrey remember!!)
Let`s look at the other fixture changes. One ground I wanted to go this season was the Hawthorns. I have not been there before and wanted to tick it off! So what do they do? They change the West Brom game from Saturday to Sunday and from 3pm to 4pm kick-off making life difficult! Not even sure I can make that now since I am back working in Surrey on Monday morning but at least the game is in the nearer Midlands not the North West.
Every fan of course would probably want to see the Manchester United games and even our home game against them in August has been tampered with for the benefit of TV. Those who have a long way to travel will probably now have to make alternative arrangements in light of the fact that the kick-off has been brought forward to 12:45pm but at least it`s still on a Saturday. We can't blame Sky Sports for this one, it's BT Sport wanting a slice of the action in this case!
The last fixture that has been changed so far is our home clash against the Toffees in October. The Everton game at Turf Moor will now be played on a Sunday too with a 1:30pm Kick-Off. Probably can`t make that so that`s two paid-for season ticket games that now look doubtful for me already and the damn season hasn`t even kicked off!
The full fixture changes are as follows:
Burnley vs Chelsea - Monday 18th August 2014 - 8pm KO
Burnley vs Manchester United - Saturday 30th August 2014 - 12:45pm KO
West Bromwich Albion vs Burnley - Sunday 28th September 2014 - 4pm KO
Burnley vs Everton - Sunday 26th October 2014 - 1:30pm KO
I am absolutely sick of this but all fans are powerless to do anything about it with the clubs rolling over and lapping up the money. Welcome to the Premier League! What are your views tell us beneath the article and vote in our poll.
