Kightly Now For Keeps!

Burnley have secured their first signing ahead of the club's return to the Barclays Premier League. Michael Kightly on his return from honeymoon put pen to paper this week joining Burnley from Stoke City for an undisclosed fee. The transfer fee was thought to be in the region of £1 million. The 28 year old winger was widely expected to join on a permanent basis following a successful loan spell last season and indeed his contract contained a clause that would allow such a move if the Clarets gained promotion to the top flight which they duly did! Kightly scored three goals and made five assists in 36 Championship appearances for the Clarets last season helping them gain automation promotion and finish runners-up to Leicester City. He has signed a three-year deal at the club

'As soon as we secured promotion to the Premier League last season, I wanted to make sure that I signed,' Kightly told the club`s official website.

'Coming in on loan is usually difficult but it only took a few weeks here to get settled and it is great to be a permanent Burnley player now as opposed to a loanee.

'It took a while to get it over the line but now it is all secured I'm really pleased.'

Feels like this news has been on the verge of breaking for weeks, with comments made on some other messageboards (cough) having been made on the assumption that it has long been a done deal. So it's a bit harder to get excited now because of that. So I tried thinking how I'd have felt if Kights hadn't after all signed... After a nasty few moments thinking about that, I have decided to spend the day thinking instead not only about the assassination 100 years ago that sparked WW1, but also about the work that Kights is going to put in up and down the left, and the goals he's going to score. The only downside is that it could have been the action of Kights' that triggered Junior's movement south.
