Burnley as we all know finished in second place this season to achieve automatic promotion to the Premier League. The Clarets returned to the top flight for the first time since 2010 when we spent one ill-fated season up there following our Wembley Play-Offs victory against Sheffield United in May 2009.
We will hopefully have better luck this time round but I thought it would be interesting to look back at what we have achieved this season in terms of the statistics and awards. They are quite simply breathtaking for a club of our size operating under tight budgetary contraints.
I will just list them since they speak for themselves!
-Main one is the fact that we averaged just over 2 points per game during the season (93 points from 46 games)!!
-Record number of points for a season (93). Highest points score by Championship runners-up and enough to be Champions in last three seasons.
-Eight doubles this season and only conceded one (against Middlesboro)
-21 clean sheets in all competitions
-Burnley let in just 37 goals in 46 matches this season, including 14 in 23 home matches, both of which were the fewest in the Championship.
-15 home wins just 2 league defeats
-Only 5 league defeats all season.
Sean Dyche 3 Championship Manager of the Month Awards in one season. A record; best was two previously and not in same season.
-3 Players in PFA Championship Team of Season-Ings, Trips and Shacks
Ings Sky Bet Championship Player of Season
-Clarets boast a statistic no other team in England or Scotland can match. Dyche, from game to game, rotated his starting line-up less than any other manager in the top five divisions in England and the top four leagues in Scotland. That means Burnley are first out of 158 clubs for continuity with an average of 10.2 players starting who also started the previous fixture.
-The Clarets and champions Leicester also maintained their place in the Sky Bet Championship's top two having used a league-fewest 23 players. Dyche employed an unchanged starting XI on 21 occasions this season more than any of the other 157 clubs in England and Scotland.
Finally how could we also forget that we beat Blackburn for the first time in 35 years?
Yes indeed one truly remarkable season and one that I thought would never prove possible.
