The club have confirmed that four senior professionals have not been offered contracts for next season when we start life in the Premier League after a four year gap.
David Edgar, Brian Stock, Keith Treacy and third-string goalkeeper Nick Liversedge have all been told they are now free to leave Turf Moor at the end of their current contracts which all expire in the summer.
Liversedge has not made a single first-team appearance since joining from non-league Whitby Towm a year ago whilst Edgar, Stock and Treacy have all struggled to make a regular start during our promotion season.
Brian Stock spent two-seasons at Turf Moor after joining on a free transfer from Doncaster Rovers. The 32-year-old midfielder went on to make a total of 42 appearances for the club. His last match for the Clarets was as a substitute when he came on in the 1-1 draw at Watford.
Canadian international Daid Edgar made 114 appearances for the club after joining from Newcastle United in 2009, scoring four goals. Although mainly used as a defender during that time he was also quite versatile also playing in central midfield more recently. The 26 year old's last appearance for the Clarets was the important 1-0 win against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road last April.
Keith Treacy joined Burnley in the summer of 2011 from Lancashire neighbours Preston North End having also played previously for East Lancashire rivals, Blackburn Rovers.
The Republic of Ireland international winger made 75 appearances for the Clarets, scoring five times. During his time on Burnley's books he was also sent out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday in 2012. In Treacy's case though it would appear he does still have a chance of staying at Turf Moor if he can convince the gaffer of his worth during a pre-season trial.
The question does remain whether contracts might have been offered had we still been in the Championship but they are clearly not currently regarded as having Premier League potential and we wish them all well in their future careers.
