Well Vokes, Sam Will Be Here Longer!

Well Vokes, Sam Will Be Here Longer!

Clarets striker Sam Vokes has today committed his future to the club after signing a two-year contract extension until the summer of 2017. His original three-year deal was due to expire in 2015

Vokes prolific partnership with Danny Ings this season has been a joy to watch following the departure of Charlie Austin the summer to QPR. The two of them have now notched up a total of 31 goals so far this season with Vokes contributing 11 of those goals just one short of his personal season best. The 24 year old Welsh international's career best of 12 goals in a season was achieved in the 2007/08 season whilst on Bournemouth's books.

Sean Dyche talking about the contract extension said:

"Sam is enjoying his football and developing as a player.

"We have all seen, so far, great signs of how his all-round game is improving and we are delighted he has decided to stay with us.

"I spoke to Sam in the summer and told him we wanted him to be part of what we are looking to do here at Burnley and he has responded to that challenge.

"He is putting in consistent performances and scoring goals and becoming the player we think he can be, so we are delighted that he is going to continue that process with us as we move the club forward."

Over 41% of votes on here had this chap down as not good enough for the team at the start of the season. I thought it was a dumb poll then, no surprise I still think it was another poll with a hidden agenda and dumb. That was my re read this week!

Well your'e wrong and you really are sounding like a stuck record these days! 'I told you so' yadda yadda..boring! The reason for the poll has been explained time and time again. it was not dumb, it was valid based on discussions at the time. By the way I dont think Vokes has been that good in recent games to be honest and a few others in the pub have been saying the same! He is missing more than he's scoring at moment and it would be interesting to see if we had more strikers whether he would keep his place. At the moment we have no option. Why would I have an hidden agenda over Vokes when I voted that he was good enough to start?

Hope he can even get better. Are we tending to compare him with Goal Machine Ings. Volkes game is more than scoring. He has had a shed load of assists and gets back in defence when needed. His contract extention has to be good news I think.

He has been missing a few sitters though recently to be honest and has fluffed a few shots. The classic one was the miss away to Leicester with only the keeper to beat when he should have kept the shot low. Few other examples in recent games too. Considering his personal best is only 12 goals and he has 11 already, I am not unduly worried but we badly need options should any striker become unavailable.

If my post above was aimed at one person then it would clearly say so, however I wrote it aimed at the 41%. I have no insider knowledge of who voted. I will not trouble you tmp with yadda boring yadda which you misread. May your stuck record continue to keep you happy.

Come on you have criticised me for putting that poll up since it first appeared and never been able to accept that was what folk were discussing at the time. He was unproven and had not broken through into the first team until Austin went. He proved 41% wrong but that doesn't make the poll wrong nor does it make it dumb. There was no hidden agenda either. Since I am the only one putting polls up that was clearly aimed at me even though I was one of the 59% that voted in his favour! The stuck record refers to virtually all your posts since you came back. You have not posted anything new just harked back to previous posts in an effort it seems to prove those who had genuine doubts wrong and foolish just for having an opinion! I dont even think you VR were expecting us to be in the automatic promotion places by Christmas.

Excellent news. Vokes will get better and better as the season progresses and as Grimsby remarks, his game is about a lot more than scoring goals. His strength in holding the ball with his back to goal reminds me of Mark Hughes and his distribution is second to none. I can't argue about some of the missed chances tmp, but name me any striker in the championship or the premiership who score every time a chance presents itself. Well done Dyche, his astute decisions continue unabated.

I am pleased for Vokes and pleased for Burnley. To pick up on Welsh's point, he reminds me a lot of Giroud and Bendtner at Arsenal, both of whom have gone on long stretches when they've missed more than they've scored.

If I'm honest I am not convinced Vokes is a natural goalscorer - he was a bit powder puff last week against Huddersfield - though he has notched a few this season and deserves his place in the side. I agree that he has a bit more to offer and when the long ball is required Vokes is usually on the end of it. Would he play every week if the squad was bigger? No, but then not many would.

Not sure what the slight dispute is about. When Austin went I doubt that there were any fans around who would have picked the success we had up to Christmas. The real point of interest is not who is playing well - it's what did SD do to bring about the improvement. I can't believe it just happened by accident.
