Our squad availability became even smaller today following news that Ross Wallace could be out for several months due to a 'wear and tear' knee injury that requires surgery.
The winger will undergo surgery in the next few days after scans confirmed immediate surgery would be required to fix the damage.
Sean Dyche confirmed he expects to be without him until later this year.
"It`s unfortunate for Ross. He came back from pre-season flying and we didn`t expect any problem, said the gaffer
"He did have a niggly knee last season, but we felt we were on top of it and so did he, but it has just gathered a little bit of pace and got too sore to continue, so it`s about time he had something done about it.
"He needs an operation and the specialist will know more once Ross gets in hospital, but we have had a scan and there are some details that need tightening up.
The injury is a further blow and once again shows how vulnerable our small squad is going to be this season should injuries continue to mount or suspensions kick-in.
It is clear that something needs to be done soon before the summer transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday 2nd September but with money tight and an £8 million loss just announced, expectations surely cant be that high.
Dyche would clearly like to strengthen the squad but may have to rely on loans to achieve it. The Clarets have a busy week coming up with three games before the close of the transfer window and the start of the international break.
"The (international) break gives everyone that respite , and the window then comes to a close and we can see how that`s settling down, hopefully with us having additions, said Dyche
"If not, the loan window then opens, but it`s an ongoing process.
"But first things first, we have to go to Brighton."
"I think we, as ever, are trying to add people to the squad, and that hasn`t changed.
"We want to build a depth to the squad when finances allow.
"We are doing our business as privately as we can, behind the scenes, and we feel that`s appropriate.
"We`re not powerful enough to give information out because the people who do speak openly about transfers are usually the ones who have lots of money.
"We have to shop accordingly. We have eyes on the market, but it takes everything to fall into place."
