Burnley X-Files: Chappy Roars for Millwall!

Burnley X-Files: Chappy Roars for Millwall!

Championship side Millwall have completed the signing of former Clarets midfielder Richard Chaplow on a free transfer. Chaplow has signed a two-year deal at the Den. Last season, he made four appearances for the Lions during a loan spell from Southampton.

'Delighted to be a Millwall player,' the 28-year-old wrote on Twitter.

'Looking forward to getting into the training and to get back playing.'

Many Clarets fans may well have been hoping that the player might have made a return to Burnley but there was never any strong links or even weak ones that the club were remotely interested in bringing the player back to Turf Moor.

Chaplow, born locally in Accrington came through Burnley's youth system to become a fans favourite in the first team. He had been at the club since the age of eight and spent twelve years at Turf Moor before a career change beckoned for the England Under 21 International

He joined West Bromwich Albion for a fee of £1.5 million on transfer deadline day in January 2005 signing a three-and-a-half year deal, with the option of a further season.

In February 2006, Chaplow signed a three-month loan deal with Championship side Southampton and this would be the first of three spells he would eventually have at the club. First though he would move to Preston North End in January 2008 on a three-year contract for £800,000 with a further £550,000 in add-ons bringing his three years at the Hawthorns to an end.

His second spell at St Marys followed in September 2010. He rejoined the Saints initially on a one month loan but this was eventually extended to the end of December. At the end of December 2010, it was announced Chaplow had agreed a two-and-a-half year permanent deal with Southampton for an undisclosed fee. Southampton though agreed to terminate Chaplow's contract this month.

Well they say you should never take back a player who was with a club before but remember Robbie Blake. I know its a done deal now with Chaplow going to Millwall but given our current lack of incoming players I would have taken a punt.
