The Clarets fly to Cork today (Thursday 11th July) ahead of their game against Cork City on Monday night (Kick-off 7 pm) and will be setting up a training camp at Leeside. Cork City are playing a Cork Airport Friendly Series this summer and Burnley will be the second team they face this Monday, July 15th at the Turner`s Cross ground . It will also be the Clarets second pre-season friendly following their disappointing 1-0 defeat away to League Two, Morecambe last Tuesday night.
One player who will be welcomed back by the Cork fans will be their former defender, Kevin Long(pictured above). Long, born in Cork came through the Cork City youth structure, before signing on professional terms in January 2008. In January 2010, it was confirmed that Long had joined Burnley, the club beating off competition from both Everton and Celtic to get the youngster's signature. Long came into his own last season for the Clarets making a number of first team appearances.
Charlie Austin will also travel out to Cork following the Hull City debacle as will trialist, Scott Arfield who also featured in the Morecambe game. We can also expect three first team squad players who missed out completely last Tuesday night to also fly out namely Trippier, O`Neill and Bartley
Cork are currently seventh in the Irish Premier League but are closer to the drop zone than European qualification. Their form is pretty woeful having lost four of their last five matches and they also suffered a 6-2 defeat to West Ham United in last week's friendly. After the Clarets game, they face another two tough challenges against Glasgow Celtic and West Bromwich Albion. Burnley fans going over the Irish Sea to support the Clarets can expect a game of two halves again with a number of the Development Squad also getting a run out as they did against Morecambe. It is impossible to predict any sort of line-up in light of the permutations but we are almost guaranteed seeing two different Burnley teams in each half.
Clarets fans in Cork for the game are also in for a treat coutesy of co-chairman John Banaszkiewicz!
Any supporters with some Burnley FC merchandise eg a replica shirt, scarf etc will be able to have a free pint from the joint-chairman from 5-30 p.m. on the night in the Beer Garden on Evergreen Road, five minutes walk from the Turners Cross ground. It is hoped manager Sean Dyche or assistant Ian Woan may also make an appearance.
Tickets for the match are available now, via Ticketmaster but with a handling charge.
They will also be available on the day one hour before kick-off at 6 p.m from kiosks located close to the turnstiles. Admission charges are €13 adults, €8 under 18s and €5 seniors and under 13s. Clarets fans will be housed in the St. Anne's End Stand.
