We bring you news of the new away kit launch, a change yet again to one of the Birmingham fixtures, Development Squad pre-season fixtures and the new Youth intake. David Edgar is out of the country playing for Canada at the moment and we report on their progress in the Concacaf Gold Cup.
New Away Kit Launched
The Clarets away kit will be based on white shirts this season and here is a picture of the full kit
Back to Tuesday Night for Brum Home Game
With all to toing and froing over the Rovers game at Turf Moor, it was perhaps inevitable the Brum game at home the week after would also follow suit. The Rovers clash was originally scheduled for Saturday 14th September with the game at home to Birmingham the following Tuesday night.
However the Rovers match was changed to the Sunday at the behest of the Police with the Brum game put back a day to Wednesday night. Fine seemed sensible until Sky Sports stepped in and despite Police advice somehow managed to get the game brought forward again to the Saturday albeit with an earlier kick-off of 12:15 pm. As expected, this week the Brum game also reverted back to the original fixture date and will now once again be played on Tuesday night (Kick-Off-7:45pm)
What a farce, that now makes eight changes since the fixtures were announced (two fixtures now changed twice)back in June and we haven`t even kicked off the new season yet!
Development Squad Pre-Season Games
The club have now confirmed the following pre-season fixtures for their Development Squad:
Fri 12th July - Wolves (a), kick off 1 p.m.
Wed 17th July - Oldham (a), kick off 11 a.m.
Tue 23rd July - Academica (h), kick off 3 p.m.
Sat 27th July - Padiham (a), kick off 11 a.m.
Wed 7th August - Leeds (a), kick off 1 p.m.
Sat 10th August - Altrincham (a), kick off 3 p.m.
Tue 13th August - Rhyl (a), kick off 7:45 p.m.
Some of these matches will be played behind closed doors but fans will be allowed to go and see the Padiham, Altrincham and Rhyl games. The Altrincham game though could see few Burnley fans present considering the first team will be playing at Sheffield Wednesday that day!
Club Welcome New Youth Intake
Seven teenagers have joined the Turf Moor playing staff including five new midfielders namely Jamie Frost, Christian Hill, Bradley Jackson, Andreas Bianga and Brandon Wilson. Defender, Waqas Azam and striker, Ntumba Massanka complete new intake of youth and all of them are pictured signing their contracts with Burnley FC Youth Team coach, Terry Pashley on the official site.
Clarets International: Edgar and Canada
One face absent from the scene at the moment is David Edgar. The defender is on international duty for Canada and last Sunday played the full 90 minutes at right back against Martinique in their Concacaf Gold Cup opener at the Pasadena Rowbowl to earn his 18th cap. This was his first competitive international since Canada were knocked out of the World Cup qualifiers suffering a 8-1 defeat against Honduras back in October
Martinique is a small French Caribbean Island and they are not even recognised as an official member of FIFA but they managed to outwit the Canucks and produce a shock 1-0 victory. Fabrice Reuperné provided the goal scoring in the third minute of stoppage time after shooting from 25 yards out. Canada now face an uphill task to qualify from their group. Their remaining Gold Cup fixtures involve playing Mexico in the CenturyLink Field, Seattle today (Thursday) before on Sunday facing Panama at the Sports Authority Field, Denver. If they do manage to qualify despite the poor start the quarter-finals will be at the Georgia Dome at Atlanta and M & T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on July 20th and 21st. The semi-finals will be on July 24th in Dallas at Cowboys Stadium, and the tournament concludes with the final in Chicago at Soldier Fieldon July 28th.
Edgar will hopefully link up with his Burnley teammates later in pre-season sooner rather than later especially with the Championship season kicking off on August 3rd.
Vital Burnley thank the club for the use of the above photograph
