Rumour Mill-David Jones on His Way?

Burnley may well have put one over Blackburn Rovers if media reports are true that we are bringing experienced, 28 year old former Manchester United midfielder, David Jones to Turf Moor.

Just a few months ago, the England Under 21 international was turning out for Rovers on loan from Wigan Athletic and impressed Blackburn enough to give them hope they might have been able to sign him on a full-time basis this summer. It would now appear though they have turned their attention instead onto Liverpool's Jay Spearing.

Jones came through the Manchester United youth system but struggled to make an impression in the first team and spent a lot of time out on loan. In total Jones notched up just four apperances for the Red Devils first team over four years. He also had loan spells at Preston North End and NEC Nijmegen during his time on United's books. Jones joined Derby County on a permanent basis in November 2006 for a fee of £1m. The deal would see Jones initially move on loan to Pride Park until the January transfer window when the transfer was made permanent.

In June 2008 Jones signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers in a three-year deal for a reported fee of £1.2 million. However things did not go according to plan and in May 2011 he decided to look for another club after failing to agree the terms of a new contract. Jones was signed by Wigan Athletic on a free transfer in August 2011 after impressing on trial during the pre-season. However in March this year, Jones completed an emergency loan move to Blackburn Rovers for the remainder of the season and has since left Wigan.

It is reported that he met the Clarets last night to tie up a move so we await to see if this is true.

Interesting one, not a spring chicken but plenty of experience at this level. Would be happy with this one if true!

I saw what you did tmp with the spring chicken "ex Blackburn player" or was that unintentional? a bit worried that that this will mean a one in one out scenario we are already thread bare in this department.

Good luck with him. One footed and over-rated in my opinion. I for one won't be sorry if he signs for the Dingles

why would it be one in one out if no fee involved and we need new midfielders

I think the feeling is Bartley and Stock will go unless we get midfield cover in first! So in a sense with McCann gone that could mean lose three to gain two?

It's been said bc that Bartley and Stock could go if suitable replacements are found and we are considering buying out Treacy's contract, hope that doesn't come back to haunt you dallydally ;)

Oh aye forgot about Treacy!! Just shows how lightweight we are..Treacy, Bartley and Stock not wanted..what about Porter? Austin? Do we have a squad of players up for it?

Reading between the lines it would be two in and four out midfield wise with Treacy, McCann, Bartley and Stock, I didn't think Stock was to bad but Edgar can play that role but what happens if he is out? never mind eh!! we can always put 4 goalkeepers in the net.

In LT today-'The Clarets have joined the race for the former England Under-21 international’s signature, and now seem favourites to secure the services of the midfielder who is understood to have had a medical at Burnley last night.'

LT also asked Dyche about link “That would be nice, watch this space!” he said, smiling broadly.

This is exactly what we need in my opinion. Jones is experienced (but not too old), he has achieved promotions at Preston, Derby and Wolves, represented the U21s, and has Premier League experience in addition to having played at a top league abroad. He could be the 'midfield general' we need. I would be impressed if this one went through.

I thought you two were supposed to be in the deepest throes of angst and panic... and this one possible signing gets a double exclamation mark?*?!?*? I've been telling you for days that things are not as bad as everyone's been thinking. Not 'all rosey', as I have been accused of by an anonymous poster on 'ere while declaring me as his friend (which was much appreciated) but not enough to lose sleep over given the similarly ropey state of almost all other teams in the division. The way I look at it is that last season we were told time and again the team played below par on the Turf due to their nerves in a nervey stadium. So, if I can get maybe 5 VB posters to cheer up and cheer, that might gain us 5 points across the season. Burnley Football Club needs YOU!

One swallow signing dont make a Clarets summer..and we aint got him yet! Trust you to latch onto one bright spark in a very dark box of matches! How bad do things have to get CP before you admit defeat and stop trying to justify shambolic management of this club..lol.;-).You been saying the same in the Prem, in the Championship since and every season up to now , yet we just get worse and worse as the money runs out and less is spent on players whilst gates drop due to dull unambitious football

Lets look @ some positives we own our own ground and training ground many clubs don't and are in financial meltdown. we have a good manager, and will have at least 3 more good signings. its not about the big names in this division its about good footballers witch we have a lot gelling together and delivering the goods I belive we will do better than last year because we have a good structure unlike many clubs in our division. Parachute money will run out that's reality but its not the end ther are plenty of good lover division talent out there that need to be given a chance Burnley fc are still a good club

You could have written that before Steve Cotterill took over and we haven't progressed one bit since apart from that weird wasted blip in the middle when we found ourselves in the top flight for the first time in 33 years and decided we better get relegated before we had to spend some money!
